Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Cheap in a special offer and I was hoping to find a gem but didn’t drink more than a few mouthfuls. Just not my cup of tea - thin and watery, overly bitter given its little complexity, doesn’t sit well in the stomach. Nice amber colour and acceptable nose. Processed and artifical aftertaste. Glad to have tried any beer but won’t buy again.

Many notes of malt, amongst caramel, rises in the nose of this ale. The foam is confined to a thin layer. It tastes markedly bitter hops and has a small sweet tang of caramel. The finish is dry and long-lasting. A fine, but traditional British bitter without any major surprises.

Smooth bitter taste with low aroma and full palate, not too strong in taste and not too filling

500ml bottle. Medium brown, decent head. Toffee vanilla vegetable aroma. Metallic caramel malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Bog standard supermarket bitter. Not my sort of beer.

500ml bottle. Coppery colour with a foamy white head. Sweet, slightly floral aroma, a little metallic. Taste is caramel, some fruit and soda. Thin body, a bit too fizzy

(Bottle 0.5 l/ half of bottle) Clear, copper colour. Small to emdium sized, fast falling head. Good lacing. Light body, soft carbonation, watery texture. Aroma: Mostly malty, toasted malts, bready, herbal hops. Taste: Similat to aroma with soft to medium strong, herbal and astringent bitterness.

Sweet malt aroma, a light bitter, quite high carbonation, and a bitter finish. Nothing special, but a decent summer gluging beer for the garden

Difficult to be more objective with this considering how rnthusiastoc I was about the cask version of this beer 25 years ago. Still some old school Brakspear character there with some toffee and orange but they don’t marry well.

Clear amber beer with a thin head. Light, sour aroma. Flavour has a touch of sour fruit, a touch of bitter hop and a dash of caramel but not a heck of a lot else. Pretty tame, all things considered.
