COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular.
Brewed at Henley by Brakspear until 2002 when the brewery closed and Refresh UK bought the rights to the brand. The beer was then contract brewed at the Thomas Hardy (Burtonwood) brewery for Refresh until 2004 when production was transferred to a purpose built brewhouse at the Wychwood brewery which includes original Brakspear brewing equipment.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2006 Currently brewed at Burtonwood, of course, although the rebuilt Brakspear plant should be back online before too long. Despite being transplanted from its spiritual home, this is still a perfectly respectable copper coloured supping bitter with an intense bitter hop attack, but a hint of fruit and malt to compensate. Very dry finish. Handpump, Uxbridge Arms, Notting Hill Gate, London. (3.0) RE-RATE. August 2006, handpump at The Colonies, Westminster. The return to Oxfordshire seems to have pepped this beer up and this was a lovely pint of "ordinary" bitter in cracking condition. Lots of fruit, bags of bitterness, soft underlying malt and just a hint of "Burton snatch" type sulphur on the nose. A very welcome surprise.

Cask Conditioned, at the St. Pauls Tavern, London City.
Amber with a slight white head. Short on aroma. Short bitter flavour that tapers nicely. Served nice and cold which is a change for this pub that has fallen off the real ale wagon big time. This pub used to have 4-6 guest cask ales on at a time, then it slowly was cropped until now it doesn’t do guests. I haven’t stopped in for a few months but am glad to see what they have kept appears to be well presented. It now has 3 regulars; Deutchers IPA, Bass and Brakspear.

Had it on cask, it had a coke like appearance, very hoppy bitter. Drinkable brew.

on cask at some eerily silent woodpanelled establishment in oxford that i cant remember the name of. for 3.4% i’m impressed at the flavoursomeness. Big fat grapefruit hoppiness pervades all. caution: may contain traces of walnuts and sultanas. very soft, clean, crisp and quite bitter.
