COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Marris Otter, Black, and Crystal malts, Oats, Target hops.
Launched as a 7.2% abv bottle conditioned beer in 2005 when the brewery moved to Witney. In 2011 briefly switched to filtered in 330ml bottles, then back to bottle conditioned at 6.7%, later returning to 500ml bottles. Name changed from Triple to Triple III in 2015.
Thanks to the two fermentations in the Brakspear ’Double Drop’ system, this highly aromatic and satisfying strong beer delivers its rich flavour with subtlety and balance. Crystal, Black and Maris Otter pale malts provide the backbone of this outstanding rich beer. Hops are added three times to provide a good balance between bitterness and fragrance. This is a triple hopped strong beer, packaged in individually numbered bottles.

Pours clear copper brown. Head reduces. Negligible aroma. Taste: sweetness, malt, alcohol. Palate: quite syrupy. Overall: Disappointing. Little hop flavour. Hops have changed since the 7.2% version, which I liked.

Copper colour, medium body, medium-light carbonation. Complex dried fruits, malt base with refreshing hoppiness. Well balanced, warming but not hot. Bitter hop finish to the up-front caramel. Easy drinking for a strong ale. Very pleasant.

Nose is short; yeast, caramel, slight lactose. Taste is brown sugar, caramel, nut, leading to a too-sweet note (banana milkshake?) in the soft cream finish. Moutfeel is good. I can’t get past the really odd banana note in the finish, it’s very off putting.

500ml bottle from Asda. Deep nut brown colour with a small beige head. Nutty, malty aroma with caramel. Medium-bodied. Nutty, taste with caramel, and a spicy bitter aftertaste.

Bottle from B&M. Rich copper colour with a quickly fading cream frothy head. Plenty of flavour to this - Spicy with apple, cinamon, pear drop, liquorice. Feels quite boozy, but in a way that is warming and enjoyable and it remains quite quaffable. A decent beer.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2014 500ml brown bottle, poured into a snifter glass. Appearance is clear mahogany with a medium sized beige head, that reduced fast leaving no lacing. Aroma of rye sourdough bread and caramel. Flavour of rye sourdough bread, caramel and orange peels. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-full bodied, slightly oily texture and average carbonation.

Bottle. Dark bronze appearance with a small head. Excellent malty flavour and a full flavour. Cannot believe that I am giving this score to a beer from the Marstons empire. Very rarely I say this about a beer they produce but it is certainly worth checking out.
