Cask-conditioned at the Summer Beer Festival, The Royal Oak, Bath 17/07/08. Dark mahogany with no head. This was a bit hard to place. Sweet aroma of caramel and dark fruit, followed by some roasty malt, earthy hops and a short , bitter finish. Ok.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Harlequin during the Sheffield RB Crawl. First beer of the day for me following a long journey up north from London, I was very glad it was a good one. Dark red brown with a small but well formed off white head. Coffee, plenty of roasted malt and slight smoky notes. Dark roasted chocolate malt finish. Straight forward but very good.

Cask at the Harlequin, Sheffield, on RateBeer Valley of Beer Crawl ’08. Very dark red brown with a small off white head. Sweet ashy aroma. Slightly sour ashy taste. Mid bitter. Not over complex, but I loved this.
