Cask, The Rising Sun, Fulwood, Sheffield. Chestnut brown, sweet nutty aroma. Sweet flavour, more nuttiness, and sweet caramel. A bit too sweet for my tastes.

Rich amber colour with a white head that sinks into the glass and disappears but for the residue clinging to the sides. Aroma tends toward malt with a distinct vegetal aroma coming from the hops. I want to think of nettles and thistles, but that may just be the theme of the beer. Other aromas of caramel slice, ginger, cereal, leather and other wonderful English bitter aromas. The flavour at first seems a little innocuous: cool and good mouthfeel and then there’s a surge of elegant bitterness, malt and buttery toast. Bitterness lingers on the palate and develops into an almost peppery flavour. A tasty drop and no doubt.
