Tap @ Holland Casino, Amsterdam. A fresh, light lager, looking and tasting pretty much as a fresh, light lager is supposed to. Not too good, but definitely drinkable in a hot night at the casino. :-)

Draught. Sweet rich malt aroma with butter. Nice bitterness at the finish, but otherwise rich and sweet with too much diacetyl. Ok.

Bottle, can and draft: Clear yellow golden color. Quick disappearing white airy head. Typical pilsner smell, bit spicier smell. Well balanced, slightly bitter and pretty spicy for a pilsner. One of the best Dutch pilsners.

Numerous times from can, bottle and draft. Brand is one of the better Dutch pilseners. Unlike some of the others Dutch pilseners, Brand is still brewed from only malted barley, water and hops without any adjuncts. The appearance is that of a classic pilsener; clear, straw yellow with a nice head. Initially, the smell of hops is very prominent. Much more so than in other Dutch pilseners. When taking a sip, the first thing I always taste is a subtle sweetness from the malt. After that, the hops kick in straight away. The brewers at Brand have done a great job here since the hop is very prominent, but it is not over the top. The finish is dry and short and is nice combination of malt sweetness and hop bitternes. When I compare this pilsener to some of the other big brand Dutch pilseners such as Heineken, Grolsch and Bavaria, I can only conclude that Brand is in a league of its own. A very nice brew indeed.

33 cl bottle, Maastricht, The Netherlands. Pale golden, faint straw aroma with a balanced sweet bitterness. Easy drinking, pepper comes through on subsequent sips, quite nice actually.

Draft in Amsterdam. Very boring standard macro pils. Sure, a little malt, a little hops, but this is lawnmover stuff.
