3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 PeterHollander (20) - Hengelo, NETHERLANDS - JUL 6, 2003
Bottle. Aroma and taste: hops. Very strong longlasting finish. A very bitter lager, not complex but a challenge.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartijnVV (33) - NETHERLANDS - APR 7, 2003
very fresh beer... a very well beer for a glass at the balcony after a day working. Bitter, tasty, but not top storng you taste your drinking beer. But after the first impression you start tasting a second taste..
Also very well.It is not a beer for a few, you would start being irritated of the sweet undertaste (strange Heinekenlike Hop)
it is a beer to make time for.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jerohen (1793) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - JAN 27, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2008 Rating reflects Urtyp-version. Brand Urtyp: Pale yellow, thin lacing. Hoppy aroma. Smooth hoppy and watery taste. The Dutch version of Pilsener Urquell. My absolute favourite everyday-pilsener. Brand UP: I guess changing of the name from Urtyp to UP was accompanied by a change in recipe. The beer seems more one-dimensional and more dry, closer to their regular pilsener. Such a shame. Rating 3.2.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bierkoning (8099) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - SEP 2, 2002
Hoparoma. Hopbitter taste with a hint of orange. One of the most outspoken Dutch pilseners.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 skortila (4160) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - AUG 31, 2002
UPDATED: SEP 22, 2003 bitter hoppy taste, 5,5% pilsener Still it tasts quite light. Somehow a bit of a honey-taste. Refreshing, bitter (like a Brand-beer should be) Rerate: floral and herbal. Now this brew is called 'URTYP'
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 23, 2002
UPDATED: AUG 11, 2009 Golden colour. Minimal head. Herbal spicy and mossy hops mix with bready malts on the nose - it’s all very nondescript. Mild palate, with some minty hops and bready malts. Relatively clean and balanced macrobrew, with a mild bitterness. Drinkable.
4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 schuim (36) - NETHERLANDS - NOV 30, 2001
This probably is the best Dutch pilsner. It is for sure the most hoppy one from the large dutch breweries.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 sjengske99 (2) - Mestreech, NETHERLANDS - NOV 5, 2001 does not count
The best Pilsener there is!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - SEP 19, 2001
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2003 re-rate 10-19-03: I had to do this re-rate because Brand changed it's recipe and it has been a long while since I rated this one. The change was made to adjust to the flavor of the masses. The typical bitterness is now much less but it gained a nice fruitiness in aroma and flavor which I like a lot. Still bitter but this slowly fades away to the end. Medium body, refreshing and flavorfull. 04-08-99, 3.4:A bit light taste. Finishes very good with a little bitterness.
