3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, - SEP 19, 2001
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2003 re-rate 10-19-03: I had to do this re-rate because Brand changed it's recipe and it has been a long while since I rated this one. The change was made to adjust to the flavor of the masses. The typical bitterness is now much less but it gained a nice fruitiness in aroma and flavor which I like a lot. Still bitter but this slowly fades away to the end. Medium body, refreshing and flavorfull. 04-08-99, 3.4:A bit light taste. Finishes very good with a little bitterness.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 erickok (1071) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - MAY 22, 2012
Yellow fizzy, glowing body with nice lasting frothy head. Very decent light malt aroma with enough hop backup. Some summery yeast hints. Easy drinkable with lager, but with surprisingly good bitter end. Still somewhat grainy. Much better than the normal Brand pilsner or the other big Dutch pilsner brands. (33cl bottle)

Brand UP might be the best mainstream beer you can find on tap in non-beerknurd bars. This Urtyp Pilsner (UP!) has been brewed since 1952 in Wylre, Limburg. After takeover by Heineken it was temporarily sweetened, but this ill-fated decision has fortunately been reversed. It is a very clean, crisp German style pilsner with a bit fuller body and bitter aftertaste. These qualities and 5% ABV make it a very pleasant session beer. It is being marketed as the "classy" beer now by Heineken, so the places who have it on draught are the better bars and restaurants.

Oct 2010: Brown 33cl bottle reviewed during on of my ’Pilsner/Lager’ tasting evenings. It had two months life on being poured into my stemmed ’La Chouffe’ tulip.
Really pale, just like a Helles should be, medium sized white head.
Usual odourless lager/pilsner, gets my regular score of 3 for smell.
It may well be clean and clear, it is also almost tasteless, but strangely I enjoyed it.
Refreshing and drier than I normally prefer my lager based beers, this one however touched the spot as it were.

33 cl bottle. Clear yellow colour. Heavy carbonation. White head diminishes to quickly. Aromas of hops, hay and grass. Taste: light sweet malts, grass and a strong bitter hop taste. Light body.
Nice flavourfull bitter beer, much netter than a normal pilsener.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mile (1447) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 25, 2011
Bottle. Light golden, small and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, some grassy hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some butter and light grassy hoppyness. Finish is short to average, malty and lightly sweetish, some butter and grassy hoppyness. Lightly sweetish pils – could use more hoppyness to balance the diacetyl.
