The minute we tasted Texas Exile, our imperial coffee porter, we knew we needed to put some in bourbon barrels. The result is almost too much for the human mouth. Coffee, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, smoke, oak, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, molasses, way rad, totally awesome, holy crap. Oh yeah, 11.5% abv, insanely well hidden. Once a year limited release.

Pours a murky, deep-dark absinthe; unforgiving Marianna's trench. No head just swirls of trying and then failing. Coffee-chocolate forward with nose hair alcohol singe. Bourbon nose beer finish. Good. Great. Possibly the abyss. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Thick dark brown pour, small head. Huge boozy aroma with tons of chocolate, cocoa, and some coffee. Flavour is coffee and chocolate, cocoa, caramel, pretty roasty with a touch of dark fruits and marshmallow. Thick, oily texture. Tons of flavour and very tasty, but not perfectly balanced.

22 oz.Bottle purchased at Julio’s shared by Eric S. Bottle date of 03/15/2013. Color is pitch black with a very oily film when swilled around the snifter. Aroma is mild coffee bean, chocolate and subtle bourbon character.

The flavor is mostly bourbon with the coffee bean almost completely dead at this point. Flavor still has a nice chocolate brownie batter and moderate amount of bourbon barrel. Body is really nice for a porter, the texture is oily like the swirl around the snifter. Very mellow alcohol after the year plus age. No oxidation and the flavor is above average, nice.

Bottle from a year ago. Aroma is nice with chocolate and mild coffee and bourbon. Coffee and bourbon barrel flavor is still there but faint. Mostly chocolate and dark fruit with a slight metallic aftertaste, unfortunately. Overall quite good minus that aftertaste

> A surprising behemoth of a coffee imperial porter

>> Pours a deep inky black with smaller, reddish foam. Nose is green olive moving to subtle bourbon barrel and deep chocolate. Taste is dense creamed coffee, dense dark chocolate. Powerful, rich palate. Quite good, always scroll past this bottle in stores. Much better than expected.

Sweet coffee aroma, simple flavor, soft creamy mouthfeel. Everything but the flavor is outstanding. Flavor is good.

Bottle. Black with almost no head. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Bright oily palate. Vegetal coffee, dark chocolate, and subtle bourbon taste. Meh.

Bottle from Andover Liquors. Pours a solid black with a smallish tan head that holds some retention. Aromas of brown sugar, milk chocolate, fudge, coffee, a touch of alcohol and bits of oak and vanilla. The flavor is sweet with lots of dark sugars, milk and dark chocolates, bits of dark dried fruits, and a bit of wood. Light earthy citrus hop flavor. There is a strong alcohol presence that burns on the way down allowing me to trace each sip on its journey towards my stomach. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet thick oily syrupy mouthfeel. This beer smells really good but the alcohol presence in the flavor keeps me from really enjoying this beer.

Bottle... Poured jet black with a mild light brown head. An insane amount of roast on the nose. This roast came through in the flavor with added coffee. Coffee added roast, bitter-sweet tones, mild coffee-like acid, and dark chocolate/mocha. Some sweetness along with oaky & vanilla bourbon notes, but I was mostly getting roast from the grains and coffee.
