Cask, The Salmon, Leicester. Very dark brown with a firm beige head. Aromas are roast coffee with plenty of dark berries. Liquorice with nutty dark chocolate and hints of smoke. Dark treacle with bready yeast. Flavours are rich, bitter coffee with hints of grapefruit. Berry fruitiness with pithy notes. Dark chocolate with some nice funkiness. Dry on the finish with fruity bittersweet. Good.

Wow, a smoked beer that actually tastes Smokey! Full of bonfire hints, would be great with food.

Cask at Rutland Arms, Sheffield. Just about black. Fairly thick, bubbly tan head. Chocolate. Caramel. Light, savoury smoke. Taste is dry, with a light, roast bitterness. Palate is surprising airy. Finish is long, roast bitter. Quite light on the smoke. Very decent.

Cask at Maidenhead beer festival 2014. A black coloured pour with virtually no head to speak of. Smokey, malty aroma. Tastes smokey, malty, slightly roasty with a hint of coffee in there too.

BlackHaddock (4683) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 24, 2014
Cask half-pint at the 2014 Lincoln Beer Festival. Poured a good dark colour with a beige head that stayed. Smoky malts rule the brew in all aspects, deep routed earthiness ooze out of the beer which is neither sweet or dry, but just right. Impressed. I don’t usually go for ’smoked’ beers but this was fine and I’m pleased I tried it.
