Our trial take on the ’winter warmer’. An East Yorks version of the fashionable US West Coast hop-forward IPA. Bitterness is balanced by malt sweetness in our IPA and dry-hopping rounds out the aroma. Three hop types in this one, to justify the ’sunshine-in-a-glass’ claim. Just what you need to brighten a grey winter day!

19/3/16 Cask at the Hawkshead Spring Beer Festival, pours a slighlty hazy amber with a slim white head. Aroma, nice hoppy fragrance, malt unerlying it. Taste, nice hops, orange, citurs, floral. Nice ale.

Bottle from that shop in Malton. Golden with a decent head. Pine and grapefruit on the nose. Orange and apricot at the back. More orange and grapefruit on the taste. Light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Decent.

More an APA then an IPA. Nice and hoppy but with a characteristically English finish. Perfectly pleasant but Im not going to seek this out.

Cask at White Star, Stoke. Pours golden amber. Sticky, plenty of resinous hop, more stickiness, boozy hop punch. Ok but a little too cloying.

Cask at The Earl Grey Inn, Leek. A clear amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, some mango, slight nuttiness, caramel, resin and subtle earthy hops. Taste of grapefruit, orange marmalade, peach, subtle apricot, caramel, resin and slight alcohol. Medium bodied and an oily texture. A dry but fruity, resinous hop bitterness in the finish. A good APA, great marmalade, resin and malty flavours. Enjoyable but I have had better.

Impressive aroma as soon as opened cap, floral & citrus in glass. Hop bitterness throughout, almost vegetal I thought. Enjoyable

23rd April 2015: 500ml bottle BBE of Sep 2015. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home. Slight haze to the orange/amber body, on top a full uneven white foam blanket. Hops all the way and very bitter with a hidden malty backbone that fails to temper the hop bitterness too greatly. I really liked it, the wife not so. Strangely I was talking to my daughter who lives in California while I was drinking this beer: it could have been brewed where she lives in Orange County such was the hoppiness.

Gravity at the Guisborough Beer Festival. Amber with an off white frothy head. Promising sweet pineapple hoppy aroma. The flavour is sweet with tropical notes and some bitterness in the finish. Syrupy texture. Decent.
