Our trial take on the ’winter warmer’. An East Yorks version of the fashionable US West Coast hop-forward IPA. Bitterness is balanced by malt sweetness in our IPA and dry-hopping rounds out the aroma. Three hop types in this one, to justify the ’sunshine-in-a-glass’ claim. Just what you need to brighten a grey winter day!

Cask at Rutland Arms, Sheffield. Clear, orangey amber. Messy, bubbly, cream coloured head. Spicy, brûléed grapefruit. Light, earthy hop. Taste is fairly sweet. Chewy bitter. Palate is full, with some spiciness. Finishes bitter, with the sweetness hanging around. Tasty stuff.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Clear amber body with a medium off-white head. Low carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma of sour grain, blood orange and tea. Flavour of orange marmalade, earth and bitter green hops. Sour finish. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Very hoppy, but the bitterness verges into sourness. Improves as it warms.

Unfortunately it hadn't dropped clear, but of a hoppy soup in the glass. Aroma was very piney , with citrus undertones. Taste was intensely bitter with resin and pine. Smoothed out into some nice caramel and cinder toffee. Good mouthfeel, solid.

Cask by gravity at Glasgow Beer Festival, The Briggait, Glasgow - hazy amber, strong piney, citrus aroma, no lacing, grapefruit, hops predominate in the flavour, some counterbalancing malty sweetness, lasting hoppy aftertaste

Cask, The Salmon, Leicester. Amber gold with a dense cream foam. Aromas are piney with mango and grapefruit. Base toffee and biscuit with spices. Resinous fruit with nutty alcohol. Flavours are sweet mixed tropical fruit with woody, dry pine. Spiced oranges with bitter grapefruit and bready yeast. Herbal and green with a pithy, boozy finish. Smooth bodied and quite viscous. Very nice.

Vibrant golden with views be carbonation and a decent white cap of a head with solid lacing. Earthy berry, light resin and a decent dose of lemon and mango on the nose. Very bright and inviting. Taste is much the same, rich and boozy resin with firm mouthfeel. Finishes tenderly bitter and silky hop resin linger. Just what I needed.
