3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 beervana (781) - Libertyville, USA - JUN 2, 2006
(04.24.06) On tap at Brass Restaurant and Pub, Barrington, IL. Poured opaque brown black with small off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Chocolate/coffee notes in the nose. Medium-bodied porter that starts dry with tiny malt sweetness and smoky/roasted malt/coffee flavors. Finished dry with lingering roasted malt bitterness. Good aroma and flavor, this is an enjoyable porter.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hotstuff (3249) - Indiana, USA - OCT 30, 2009
Draft at Brass Restaurant & Brewery. Small tan head with a short retention, opaque dark brown body and very little lacing. The aroma is roasty, burnt coffee, chocolate, and dark malt. The flavor is a twin to the aroma along with a thin flavor and a semi-dry finish. Smooth mouthfeel and this is a light bodied Porter. A very smooth Porter, that has a nice aroma/flavor balance.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 thedm (4124) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - SEP 20, 2009
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation dark brown colored body and a very good lacing. The aroma was roasted malt and burnt malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The good flavor contained notes of toasted malt roasted malt and chocolate. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cornfield (5277) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - NOV 15, 2006
Braumeister Anthony Carollo has been tweaking the recipes that he’d inherited, and it’s perhaps most evident with this ale, part chocolate Porter, part robust Porter. It’s a thick dark brown brew with little carbonation and a healthy brown head. The aroma is rife with sweet dark malts and creamy chocolate. Tastes much the same witha very slight nutty bitterness near the finish. Quite good drinking.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Arnie (274) - Chicagoland, IL, Illinois, USA - JUL 21, 2006
On tap at brewery. Thick and rich, the best of a middle-of-the-road beer sampler. Dark, opaque in color, malts on nose and complex, flavorful finish.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CMUBEERMAN (421) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 9, 2006
This poured black with a creamy mocha head. Aroma was very subtle (this probably had to do with the temperature of the brew)...there was some slight chocolate, cream, and nuts. Flavor is soft chocolate and malt...quite nutty and fruity too. Mouthfeel was very thick...almost felt like a nitro draft.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 gws57 (1231) - Saint Charles, Illinois, USA - JUN 4, 2006
Had this one on draught in South Barrington. The best one of the bunch. Very very dark, opaque pour with very little head, notes of grape pop, chocolate and coffee in the nose, and cherry, smoke and rye bread in the finish. This was excellent.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Zeswaft (1182) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 27, 2005
Black color with zero head. Strong aroma of coffee and caramel. Flavor is dominated by coffee notes. Somewhat watery for a porter. Almost on par for a decent porter.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 drywallman (291) - Lake in the Hills, Illinois, USA - APR 21, 2005
This was also part of a sampler at Brass. This was dark brown, almost opaque with the expected quickly dissipating head. The roasted malt was just noticeable, along with just a hint of chocolate (my partner detected more), and of course little to no hops effect. This is a good porter you could drink a lot of.
