2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 10, 2012
Oct 2007 from BA: 75cl brown cork and caged bottle, this ’Ambree’ beer has browny yellowy labels front and rear.
Poured into my Hoegaarden glass and two Palm glasses.
The colour is almost red, a deep brown more than amber the head was a wispy white covering. I do prefer a larger foaming head on my beers.
The aroma and taste was a sweet and sour sauce sort of mix add some yeast and that is the strange smell and flavours I found. It had a tart sharpness to it, I didn’t take too this feeling at all.
There was also a wierd perfumed, burnt berries feel to the aftertaste, not what I am looking for in a beer, hence the low score.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 heavy (1490) - Split, CROATIA - JUL 22, 2011
06/05 0.33 l bottle courtesy of Marko, thanks for sharing! It poured amber body with medium sized head. Hop and fruity (berries) aroma with also a touch of coriander. Flavor was fruity as well, biscuity, vanilla... Lacks expected bitterness, for its own good. At least, it wasn’t empty like most BdGs. Ends nicely fruity with some coriander and pepper. Not bad, a fine beer to taste.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ogivlado (4444) - Zagreb, CROATIA - MAY 18, 2011
Botted 330ml. -Courtesy of Marko (thanks!), shared with heavy and him.
Amber coloured, medium sized off-white head that went away slowly, spicy and dried fruits (plums) in the nose. Sweetish and perfumed plums with notes of spices (some odd kind of cinnamon). Totally messy one but on the interesting side.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Marko (3115) - Split, CROATIA - MAY 17, 2011
Bottle from the Abbaye des Saveurs in Lille, shared with ogivlado and heavy (and huge thanks to Plavec for carrying it for me since my luggage was packed!) Poured some amberoid body indeed with a low off white head. Plum in the nose, malt. Taste is plum jam, even strudel. Strange, interesting, like it!
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 imdownthepub (7473) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 24, 2011
Bottled, 750ml cork & caged from Carrefour, Coquelles, France. Clouded orange with no head. Styraight into wet cardboard, soggy carpet underlay with this, fungal, wet earthy, perhaps hints of roasty malt, but nothing to return to.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DeanF (1484) - Iqaluit, Nunavut, CANADA - MAR 31, 2010
Found in a 330ml bottle somewhere near Paris. Pours with a very nice head, okay foggy brown colour, lots of carbonation, some sediment. Hey, it’s interesting at least, after a few dozen boring pale lagers I can’t complain. Aroma is hops and coriander, slight alcohol buzz, but very much on the lighter side of the spectrum. Taste is very light, champagne-like, lots of hops as well as caramel, cinnamon, some kind of Christmas spices seem to ease through. This one’s interesting, and worth trying. Unique and not too bad, but feels like a "seasonal" beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 23, 2010
75 cl bottle from a supermarket in Paris.
Orange-amber color. Very light aroma and flavor, but interesting. Good barnyard flavor, but a delicate amber flavor, plus a bit of sweetness in the Belgian ale manner. Very nice indeed, better than average in this style. Basically a bit sweeter and maltier than others I have had in this style, which, together with decent hopping and the typical barnyard taste, gave it a very nice balance and a lot of interest.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - FEB 4, 2010
Bottle@Home. Caramel, herbs and light medicinal aroma. Floaties, amber colour, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, light bitter, caramel, light herbal, very medicinal. Odd flavour that I didn’t like.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Quack-Duck (5921) - Down South, GERMANY - OCT 29, 2009
bottle from Auchan Illkirch-Graffenstaden. The bottle has been relaxing in my cellar fro nearly a year now. When I opened it I found myself inmidst of a fountain of beer. I lost about half the bottle content due to gushing. Very aromatic and nicely smelling beer was all over the living room and evrything was dripping with Vieux Lille ambree. The tiny rest which I managed to collect in my glass looked hazy amber, with an enormous head. Fruity-malty nose. Full-bodied with flavours of caramel, orange peel, honey and vanilla. A very delicious beer, what a pity I’ve lost half of it.

Bottle from Intermarche, Nr Boulogne, France. Gold with a lasting white head. Curious musty, yeasty, citric aroma. Taste begins quite sour, and is followed by a delicious, impossible to describe mixture of dust, malt, yeast, spice and compost that reminds me of everything I love about rural France. And I also love this beer.
