341 ml bottle in a taster 12-pack from Trappe a Fromage, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. JL 04/09.
App.: Slightly hazy golden, so-so white foam.
Aroma: Strong, stinging, lemony ginger, a little biscuit malt, lime.
Palate: Medium body and effervescence.
Flav.: Peppery, lemony ginger, a touch of toast, a little lime, slightly earthy; dry with almost no bitterness.
Interesting, but not in large quantities.

[2233-20090605] Tap. Sweet strong ginger aroma that is powdery and fresh. Hazy, light yellow brown body with a quick foamy white head. Super ginger-soaked beer flavour. Medium body is tangy. Lovely, could pair well with sushi!

Bottle. Pours pale yellow with a small head that instantly disappears. Nose is big ginger. Very big ginger. Taste is, again, big ginger. I’m really not into ginger (not in that amount anyway) so no thanks.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (8245) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 18, 2009
A hazed blonde alwe with a thin white head. Pleasant aroma of ginger and citrus grass. In mouth, a very citrusy ale, with citrus grass, wheat. Pleasant. On tap at Mondiale 2009.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 blankboy (5153) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 13, 2009
Draught at ’Mondial de la Biere 2009’, Montréal, QC. One of the festival highlights for me, I went back repeatedly for it. Drank pitchers of it at the brewery as well. Before letting me order it they made me sample it first. "Fuck yeah!", that’s what I said when I first smelt it. Lots and lots of ginger, spicy and floral too -- I love it. Flavour: Wow, so ginger-ey! Medium bodied, well carbonated. Incredible stuff and criminally underrated. C’mon!

Bottle from Dépanneur Rahman. Pours a very hazy apricot gold with a medium white head that falls steadily, but does remain present. Enormous ginger note on the nose. Almost overwhelming. Smells like a fresh hand of ginger. Remarkable actually. Tastes, obviously, like more ginger. Sort of like a real ginger ale. Not bad actually. Medium bodied, and a touch medicinal, but does have a soft bit of wheat behind it. Spicy on the gums. Finishes lightly with again, a touch of ginger, and some nice yeasty wit notes. I’m actually surprised at some of the low ratings. It’s certainly not a typical wit, opting for ginger over coriander and orange zest, but the name and concept are carried out winningly, and it is rather impressive. I’m wondering if some of the reviews just didn’t get what the brewer was going for here. Took me a few minutes but when it clicked, it was great.

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy golden/yellow beer. The beer is absolutely loaded with fresh hot gingery spiciness. The flavour has a touch of lemon and orange, ginger and a touch of spice. There is a bit of light yeastiness in back. It’s not as hot as I initially thought. A bit floral and aromatic. Even a bit of lavender. It’s quite unusual.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Diogène (1051) - Mirabel, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 1, 2009
Bottle. Hazy yellow with a medium frothy white head. Below average retention for a wit. Aroma is intense ginger with citrus and wheat. Flavor is Ginger, grass, mould, wheat and pine. Smell is OK, but there something in the flavor I find downright disgusting.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gorbalev (2823) - Ontario, CANADA - JUN 12, 2009
Mondiale 09, at the fest, and the brewpub as well. Hazy dark yellow, small white head. Intense ginger aroma - there’s nothing else here and that is fine, it is lovely. Great ginger taste - bubbly carbonated body, very quenching, crisp and light yet tons of flavour. Not unbalanced to my taste, but I also would not want to drink more than a few pints of it either. Still, a really nice surprise, not even on my radar going in, but having fresh on tap (and having the friendliest folks of the fest) certainly helped. Not as enamored as my Mondiale trip mates, but not as down on it as previous raters wither. A solid solid beer - would do well here in Ontario -I’m very serious.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 garthicus (2336) - Dublin, IRELAND - JUN 12, 2009
Sampled time and time again at Mondial festival of beer and pretty much this was the beer of the festival for me. I took a 6 pack home. Appearance: Murky, cloudy orange with a tiny white head. Aroma: Just pure fresh ginger, some malt and pineapple, spices too. Flavour: Wonderful burning ginger, one can just imagine drinking it with sushi. It reminds me of a drink in Kenya called Stoney Tangawizi - a seriously intense ginger experience. It tingles the throat and is just immensely refreshing. That combined with the incredible friendliness of the Les Brasseurs De Montréal staff makes it a serious craft brew contender, Just superb.
