Bottle. Beautiful deep brown body, medium mocha head with good retention. Nasty aroma of solvent, leather, herbs and grain. Tastes somehow better, burned coffee, herbs, licorice, caramel, toast. Eh?

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of absinthe herbs, roasted malts, some coffee and chocolate, and some light spices. Flavor the same with an interesting blend. Average texture. Cool but I couldn’t drink a lot of this.

Bottle from LCBO Isidore. Vanilla and chocolate aroma with a blast of minty licorice. Opaque dark brown with hazy highlights and a tawny, light brown cover. Sweet mocha and cream flavour with coffee and chocolate bitterness. Absinthe flavour is surprisingly subtle compared to aroma and comes in late but lingers. Medium full body, creamy feel, medium carbonation.

Belle amertume. Chocolat noir. Truffe. Très anisé. Absinthe. Gâteau vanille. Framboise. Finale sèche. Fais sweet stout/dessert.

Strange, but not bad. Pours pitch black with mocha head and lacing. Aroma of anise, some roast malt and some booze. Finishes with that note of bitter absinthe herb. Thick consistency. Tap at Gainsbourg.

It pours opaque dark brown with mahogany highlights; the head is beige and foamy. The aroma has notes of: anise, fennel, toffee, mocha, and biscuit. The taste is light sweet that finishes medium astringent; there are notes of: anise, licorice, fennel, toffee, and bitter chocolate. The palate is medium bodied, has medium carbonation, and a medium finish. Overall, a unique twist, although the balance is dreadful.

Pours very opaque brown with a bit of a redish brown head. Aromas of coffee beans, herbs and spices, roasted malts and licorice. Tastes unlike any stout I have had. Very strong anise flavour with a blunt herb and spice middle. Almost tastes medicinal.

Pours black with a frothy, caramel head. Aroma of licorice, anise, and a bunch of other things I can’t identify. Taste is mildly sweet, with some roasty notes, slight tang, licorice on the finish. Could be a bit bigger bodied considering the abv and style. Really interesting, however. The roast/licorice combo is a winner.
