Appearance: very dark , little light shown, smallish creamy top with fizzy midlle. Dark mocha foam. 3- Nose: Aromatic mint , absinth potent feel. Refreshing clearing aroma. Flavor/Palate : Roasty black malt up front quickly taken over by absinth character. Minty feel , herbal. Bit numbing.

This is a good, strange, one-note beer with a very prominent herbal/liquorice character. You’ll either love it or hate it. I happen to love it.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thorongil2 (500) - , Ontario, CANADA - JAN 26, 2012
(bottle) clear very dark brown colour with small brown head; aroma of licorise, coffee; sweet flavour, thick palate, pretty good (unless you hate licorice)
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 whitecap (217) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 22, 2012
341ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is overwhelmingly anise and black licorice with some roasted malt. Would not really consider this to be a "stout" as the bottle suggested... It’s pretty much a stout base with loads of anise and licorice added in. If you’re a fan of those flavours you’ll like this beer. It’s unique and has a distinct unforgettable flavour. Enjoyable--but not for every day consumption.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (6119) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 30, 2011
A gimmicky stout, yet a good one! Pours black with a small retained head. Absinth clearly in smell, we know it, we get it and it works. A nice diversion, though the stout behind it is basic. Worth seeking out.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Tessic (631) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 24, 2011
This stout poured a deep, dark black colour with a creamy, dark tan coloured head. Light lacing. To the nose there are scents of smoke, licorice, chocolate, cooked veggies and cream. First sip was very smooth with a almost oily mouthfeel. Carbonation was low and the flavours of burnt chocolate and smoke were most prodominant. Other flavours of licorice and i’m guessing Absinth come up later. Finish is smoky and burnt with a light licorice flavour lingering.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 lukin (255) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 16, 2011
bottle. Pours smooth deep black, tan head. Aroma of licorice is strong on top of typical stout aromas of coffee, chocolate. The taste is a little sharp, the absinthe/licorice is quite strong. Overall not my kind of thing, but its certainly interesting.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 herrbrown1974 (180) - Toronto, CANADA - NOV 15, 2011
351 ml bottle purchased at LCBO. Very dark brown. Tan, filmy head. Big aroma of licorice, a little toffee and currant, roasted coffee and black pepper. Flavour is quite bitter, espresso and licorice, very dark chocolate. Quite herbal, almost a Jaegermeister finish. Don’t drink this if you don’t like licorice. It’s pretty powerful and bitter, not sure it all comes together, but definitely interesting. I wouldn’t drink more than one bottle of this in a sitting.

A very bold beer....6.6%....it’s dark...it’s strong.....i’m feeling buzzed just after one. Nice and maltey going down....with a liquorice finish and a coffee aftertaste....i’m told thats the anise herb found in the absinth.....it’s a great tasting change to the everyday....

Not your regular cup of tea! Strong aroma of herbs and dark chocolate. Strong taste of herbs, spice, coffee. I’m not a big fan but I can understand why it gets a good rating.
