2010-02-19. Crisp red-brown body with a modest beige head. 3+ Sweetish fruity aroma, interesting malt accents. 6+ Flavour is similarly sweet, caramel and toasty malt touches make brief appearances. Odd fruity touch in the finish. Okay, simple. Bottle shared by blankboy.

February 19, 2010 tasting with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc & mabel. 750ml bottle shared by blankboy. Bright and clear ruby with an average white head. Somewhat sweet aroma, very floral, with light citrus zest and, oddly, some latex paint. Taste is spicy over a very sweet caramel malt body, some balancing floral bitterness; mild alcohol presence for 7.5%. Slick and still mouthfeel, spicy in the finish, a bit pungent - interesting; a tad on the sweet side, but hey, it’s winter, right?

Pours with a nice beige-yellow head and a murky brown body - possibly overloaded with sugar and molasses to crank up the alcohol? Doesn’t seem obvious - the nose is modest fruit and malt notes, and no overbearing gasoline to be seen. The flavour is soft cloying sweetness, not as bad as some other strong brews like this but hard to pick out of a pack. A bit of a weak mouthfeel. Nothing to get excited about here.

Orange leaning on copper, nice colour actually. Fading yellowish foam. Spices and burnt butterscotch join forces in this caramelly, fruity, sweet christmas ale with candied dried fruits, white chocolate, green grape, red plum and leather notions. The sweetness feels a bit agressive at first, but manages to mostly hide any alcohol warmth. The minimal hop levels go unnoticed. Light-bodied, but with an oily feel amplified by the timid, small-bubbled carbonation. Lingering spicy finish in the line of cinnamon/clove/anise. More things going on than I had expected, but not in the most cohesive fashion as the lactic undertones felt undesirable, more carbonation would have balanced the sweetness out better than spices and the candied side did not quite fit the almost leathery, cashew nuttiness.

Gethinbeer (1561) - Musky, Nova Scotia, CANADA - MAY 2, 2010
Very fruity aroma, almost like a five alive fruit punch but not as appealing. Nice amber colour with a good frothy head. Lace clings to glass. Weird malt, fruit flavour. Slight tang. Weird beer,

My bottle [750ml] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- c/o JulienHuxley. Pours a clear deep amber with an average size diminishing bubbly white head. Aroma of caramel malt, light spices, fruit and a hint of vegetal notes. Nice flavour of caramel malt, ginger, light spices and toffee. Medium bodied. Pretty good.

(Rating #2949)
