On tap @ Les Brasseurs de Montreal. Dark amber, sort of mahogany pour with a thin off-white head. Aromas of chocolate and raisin. Lots of vanilla, burnt sugar, and some subtle roast. A little coffee as well. The flavor is certainly a bit sweet, but there’s some nice roasty bitterness and dark cocoa. Good caramel, dark fruits, and burnt sugar. Maybe a little vanilla and wood?

341 ml bottle from Drummondville Metro. Pours a dark chestnut brown with smallish light tan head. Aroma is sweet, but slightly roasty with dark fruits, brown sugar, bread and wood. Flavour has a more pronounced barrel character with roastiness, more understated sweetness, lots of dark fruits, some treacle and bread. Alcohol is fairly subtle given the ABV. Solid.

Dark brown-red, nearly no foam. Strong smell of dried fruits, chocolate and some torrefaction. Had some madère hint. Alcohol is detectable to the nose. Taste is great, follow the aroma. Medium body, kind of sticky. Carbonation is low. Great brew from them, was surprised by this one.

341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 2012 vintage.

App.: Extremely deep mahogany with a nice tan head. Aroma: Rich sweet malts with a hint of twang, brown sugar veering to molasses, dark dried fruits, a little butterscotch, caramel/toffee hints, light vanilla and a little bourbon character, a bit nutty, some nice qualities marred by a slight infection. Palate: Medium-full body, rich, velvety effervescence. Flav.: A bit brothy, lots of deep, rich malts, molasses dominates with a fairly fruity character, light acidic tang, a bit of booze; dry with sufficient bitterness, a little acidity and a long, mouth-coating finish of rich malts.

Something is a bit off here. Light infection. Oh well.
