Bottle. Heavy malt notes of toasted and strong coffee, light resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with just a hint of vinegar. Head is average size, fizzy, light brown with fair but crusty lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor is faintly sweet and heavily acidic to start, then finishes moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium, creamy, both covered up by a an overly fizzy carbonation. it finishes chalky and dry. This beer really doesn’t smell bad at all, but take one sip and it all goes wrong. Sweet Stout? Are you shittin’ me?

341 ml bottle purchased at Marché Vaillancourt in Morin Heights (Quebec) on March 25, 2012. Black, small beige head. Malty aroma of cocoa, some grades of barley. Cocoa taste sour and alcohol, slightly fruity, bitter chocolate. This stout does not really come out of the ordinary!

bottle A: chocolate, roast, subbtle cacao. App: small bubbly beige head it’s pitch black T/P : body is full finish is sweet and medium long. On the finish I get some acidity / metallic feel. O: Fair stout was expecting more from the cacao didn’t got that.

341 ml bottle. Pours black with a nice, persistent beige head. Smells of roasted grains and strong chocolate. However, its taste is extremely disappointing. The cocoa is hard to find and comes with an extremely intense, overly aggressive bitterness which comes in way too early and breaks what I was expecting to be a nice cocoa taste...Body was watery, carbonation was bordering on too strong...Disappointing.

341ml bottle, dark black color, with a frothy bubbly tan head, mild cocoa powder, light mochaish, roasted, black, chocolate malt nose, with some burnt toast, burnt fruitcake, grounded roasted coffee beans, faint roasted peanut accents, and a mild semisweet baking chocolate bar note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, light vinous fruitiness, cocoa powder, dark bitter chocolate, fruitcake, mocha, coffee character, with some mild roasted, black, chocolate, toasted malt flavors, with a burnt toast, chocolate wafer undertone, leading towards a light vinous yeasty fruitiness, dark chocolate, burnt toast, lingering roasted coffee bean bitterness finish.

Bouteille de 341 ml achetée chez La Barik (Trois-Rivières, QC). Arôme: Odeur de cacao avec une pointe de café. Apparence: La couleur noire opaque. Présence d’un moyen col beige mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Léger goût de cacao et de fruits acides. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement huileuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Légère présence de cacao en arrière goût. (Rating #4114)

Bottle: Poured a dark black color stout with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of black chocolate notes with medium dry notes and light vanilla touch. Taste is also, as advertised, dominated by light dry black chocolate notes with light lactose notes and some subtle vanilla notes. Body is about average with light creamy texture and good carbonation. Not bad though I couldn’t drink multiple of those in one session.

Bouteille de 341ml cadeau de mon ami Patrick. Bière brune noire qui a un nez aigre, suret, de vieux mégots de cigarette et de café. La bouche est aigre et contaminé. Mauvais produit a qui terminé sa course dans la toilette.

Une tête rocailleuse qui laisse une large dentelle. Un liquide à la robe bien noire. Des parfums rôtis qui se reposent sur des élans chocolatés. Des grains rôtis qui développent des saveurs âcres et métalliques. Des flaveurs chocolatées avec une touche de café à la vietnamienne. Un corps bien gras avec un pétillement léger et une texture sirupeuse. Une finale touchée par une amertume de torréfaction.

Exactly as advertised, a cacao stout. Strong pleasant taste of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Not much in the subtlety department but not really expecting a lot of subtlety in a cocao stout anyway. I would buy this again.
