on tap at l’autre oeil, gatineau. dark brown with a decent beige head, good retention. bold port accents: cherries, lightly acidic, deep woody notes, roastiness and banana-vanilla. cloying. average carbonation, medium body - almost heavy, sweet finish, not that much acid here. awkward.

On tap at Brouhaha, dark ruby color, with a small tan head, nice sweet and sour, winey, woody, mild balsamic vinegar nose with some black cherry juicy fruitiness, toasted, chocolate, caramel malty accents, and with some fruitcake, blackcherry jam, blackberry jelly candy notes in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good sweet luscious juicy black cherry, chocolatey, toasted, roasted, caramel maltiness character, with a brown sugar, port-like winey fruity, fruitcake flavour, and a blackcherry jam, faint plum juice, raisin pie, brown sugar, iron-like backbone, leading towards a sweet black cherry fruitiness, caramelized maltiness, chocolatey, fruitcake, mild port winey fruity finish.

On tap at l’Autre Oeil (Aylmer, Qc). Pours an opaque dark brown body with a decent beige foamy/creamy head. Fair malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar and candy hints. Its strange, oversweetened taste carries fruity, vineous, and bad soapy notes. Ends with a harsh sweet finish. A failure.

On tap at the brewpub. The base is the original wild ale, which would have been interesting to try by itself. However, the addition of either cherry juice or cherry puree did two countervailing things. It added taste, of which I like, a Morello cherry tartness. It took away from purity. A bourbon corn flavour right there is the aroma. A lace sheet on a brown body. Initially cuvee, sweet and acidic at the same time.

Had this on tap at St-Bock and was a bit excited to taste a Canadian lambic. Unfortunately it did not have much in common with Belgian lambics I have tasted previously. It somehow managed to be very sweet but sour at the same time with a strong medicine taste. Almost undrinkable.

Un verre au Saint-Bock. Un truc présenté comme un lambic. Vraiment n’importe quoi. Un liquide qui présente une robe rouge foncée. Un anneau de mousse qui flotte avec une pauvre résilience. Un nez de cinzano et de vinaigre balsamique avec des herbes et des épices à l’italienne. Des traces chocolatées qui vont et qui viennent. Des saveurs de vin cuit avec des épices et des herbes aromatisées. Des sucres qui s’éveillent. Une bouche assez ronde avec une texture huileuse et tendancieusement liquoreuse. Des bulles présentes mais qui n’apportent aucune efficacité. Une finale sur des raisins fermentés qui sont dardés par les épices. Il me semble avoir bu quelque chose de cet acabit dans les années 80. Petit rajout à mon texte éminemment philosophique: je viens de voir que cette patente s’insère dans la grande famille des bières dites sauvages. Encore une fois, vraiment n’importe quoi.

Mondial de la bière à Montréal 2012. Arôme sucré, pas trop effervescente. En bouche, un peu de vinaigre, fruits, porto, prunes noires, oxydation forcée. Un joyeux mélange. Bonne, particulièrement en dessert.

I was excited to see something called a Zwalm lambic on the menu on at St. Bock in Montreal. This stuff is rough. I’m not sure why they called it a lambic. I guess it like a faro ...maybe....smells of kerosene ....slight burn going down with a huge sugary carmel finish.....yuck

Sample, 4 ounces, draught, at the Hivernale des brasseurs, savoured on February 25 2012; eye: reddish brown, clear, ring of beige head, no lacing; nose: woody, vanilla, sweet, light malt; mouth: woody, vanilla, sweet, light malt, sweet finale with woody presence, medium body, rather sweet, syrupy texture; overall: interesting FRANÇAIS Échantillon, 4 onces, en fût, bue à l’Hivernale des brasseurs, savourée le 25 février 2012; œil : brun rougeâtre, limpide, cordon de mousse beige, pas de dentelle; nez : boisé, vanille, sucrée, léger malt; bouche : boisé, vanille, sucrée, léger malt, finale sucrée avec présence boisée, corps moyen, plutôt sucrée, texture sirupeuse; en résumé : intéressante
