341ml bottle from Beer-city

Pours dark reddish brown with a smooth foamy head. Aroma of sweet syrup, caramel, toffee and berries. Taste is sweet, sticky and malty with notes of syrup, caramel and toffee. Finish is sticky, malty and caramely with some syrupy toffee notes. A bit too sweet for my taste.

341ml bottle. Murky copper body, small beige head with poor retention. Aroma of caramel, orange candy, floral hops, dried apricots, some heavy cookie dough and alcohol in the backstage. Taste of caramel malt, herbs, cherries, raisins. Boozy but not in a bad way. Good warming effect.

Average sized head, disappears quickly, leaving a thin broken film. Color is reddish brown. Aroma is cookies, syrup, cinnamon and vanilla, fruity and slightly alcoholic. Body is medium to full, oily, maybe too alcholic. Low carbonation, finish is bitter. Taste is sugar, caramel, oaky. Correct balance.

Great aspect, copper color, opaque, almost no head nor lace. Aromas to caramel, sweet wine, raisins, molasses. Well balanced mouthfeel, with notes to toffee, cream, vanilla, butterscotch and caramel. Creamy texture, long development, a little bit astringent finish. Medium to low carbonation and body. The overall is nice, well balanced and structured, and improves as it gets warmer. Pretty good barleywine.

Deep amber-ruby pour with a thick yellow-tan head. The nose is quite hoppy and intensely chewy. Some sweet earthy/piny hoppiness along with a bit of soft sweet caramel. A bit of toffee and some nice light berry fruit. A touch of light oxidation but that adds a nice chewy note that I totally enjoy. Quite a surprise - really damn solid barley wine.

33cl twist off cap (?) bottle pours with a clear copper body that supports a light tan head. The aroma is nice and sweet with brown sugar coated plums and sweet raisins as well as mild caramel notes blended with ripe dark red cherry meat. The taste is pretty rich and smooth with a firm load of sugar stewed cherries as well as plums and raisins that are swimming in a pool of caramel and brown sugar. It gets a bit malty and boozy toward midway and into the finish. This is a nice sipper and seems like more age will do it well. A solid barleywine.

Bottle, bought @ Beer City, Belgium. Pours clear dark red with a medium, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has lots of raisin, plums, port, vinious, toasted caramel, light milky. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is elegant, port, toasted caramel, light burnt toast, vinious, warming, raisins, hazelnuts. Quite an elegant Barleywine, even if the alcohol is a bit too present.

(Rating #4939)
