2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, - JUN 12, 2011
Crystal clear strawy golden. The aroma focuses on malts and mostly on the cerealic side with relatively fresh and grainy cereals and raw barley overtones under which the spicy, floral and green hop nose remain very timid. The hop profile remains very shy in mouth where the faint bitterness does not quite cut through the sweeter than expected cereals. While this bottle should be very fresh, I don’t quite get the impression of freshness that I get from great lagers. While the frail hop bill is certainly a source factor, the rough large bubbles, acidifying the taste and dulling down the flavor development are certainly a major culprit there as well. You could not consider the beer I drank crisp. I was hoping for this beer to become my go-to for the summer, but I’m afraid we’re not there yet and I’ll have to stick to brewpubs for very good lagers.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 2, 2012
Purchased in their mixed 12-pack (Gamme sympathique 12 Mixte). Pours a slightly hazy golden-blonde colour with a foamy head that dissipates at a medium rate and a few waves of lace are left. The nose is kind of different, feeling more like a spicy Belgian witbier than a blonde ale (or Pilsner as they refer to it). Almost peppery, with the citrus and corriander notes and some hop. Slightly oily mouthfeel. The taste is a mix of cereal malts at first being overpowered by grass (and mild fish that comes up - gross) to then, be better balanced with a nice bitterness into the aftertaste. Overall, just a bit too much all over the place. Seems confused between too many styles this one wants to be.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Minderbinder (170) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - APR 17, 2012
UPDATED: APR 19, 2012 Bottle 341ml.
Pours chrystal clear blond, with very low white head. Aroma is of malt, slightly sweet. Taste is of sweet malt, slightly bitter end. Crisp. Very refreshing. But it is what it is, poor.
Edit: The second half of the bottle turned out to be hazy. Surprising.

Bottle. Slightly hazy with soft white head. Aroma is more sour Saison than crisp peppery pilsener. Some peppery hops and a buttery flavour in the taste. With a couple of tweaks this might be a pretty good beer.

(Rating #4120)
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (6988) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 26, 2011
A blonde pils with a thick frothy creamy white head. In aroma, light mineral malt with German hopping, very classic. In mouth, a smooth crisp malt with nice German hops, grassy, lightly resinous, very decent. On tap at Brouhaha, Dec. 16 2011.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 VincentL (157) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 17, 2011
Meh. L’odeur est très faible et rappelle une Molson. Le malt sucré est balancé par un peu de houblon mais il y a aussi une pointe d’âcreté désabréable et au total je n’ai vraiment pas aimé.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 krinkle (12) - Sherbrooke, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 14, 2011
Straw color. Malty and floral aromas, the body is very light and dry. Doesn’t have the finesse of a Pilsner, neither the character of a (very) pale ale. Nevertheless it is very refreshing.

My Bottom Line :
This soporific Blond Ale relies on a citrusy, floral twang and light honeyed angles to craft a drinkable, but highly forgettable, flavor profile.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A ring of foam circles the pale golden haze.
-If the commercial description hadn’t hinted at Czech Pilseners, I would never have guessed that’s what they were aiming for. Even the Czech macros make a better product.
-Pils malt flavors were undefined to the point where I wonder if pils malts were really used. Even a can of the generic Staropramen has a better polished (and more enjoyable) malt character...
-The aroma is nearly empty. Where is the promised Saaz?
-Body is lean and helps drinkability.
-This is quite serviceable, don’t get me wrong. I guess what flustered me is the near total lack of Czech-like pils malt wealth and Saaz freshness.
Bottle.

Bouteille 341 ml. 5%. Couleur jaune or, mousse blanche. Arôme de céréales sucrées. En bouche, malt, goût différent, floral. Finale sèche, pas d’amertume. Bonne.
