COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The houblon noir gets its inspiration from India Pale Ales. Occasionally, the drying of the malt was overdone which gave much darker ales, sometimes even black. The results of those "once in a while" batches have gained in popularity in the microbrewery world since the mid-1990’s. The Houblon Noir offers a robust bitterness character with clean citrus notes and evergreen resins on top of which a noteworthy level of maltiness, roasted cereals and grilled cookie flavours is perceived.

341 mL. A style I really like, and a brewer for whom I’ve recently gained some respect. So expectations are fairly high. Colour is right, but there is almost no head. The aroma is nice - quite resiny. Flavour is not bad - nothing off - but it’s a little tinny. Nice bitterness. Decent body. Not bad, but needs a little tinkering.

Dark purpleish pour, almost no head. Lots of caramel roasted malts and a touch of faint pine hops. Quite biiter with an almost cloying malty sweetness. The hops linger and are nice. The malt, and roast is over the top though.

Black IPA is an interesting style of beer ! You can taste the hops a lot and malt too ! I am a fan of hops so I really enjoyed this Beer ! You got some roasted notes on the top ! It’s a good black ipa that deserves a way better ratting in my own opinion !

Bottle 341ml. Pours very dark brown, with low off-white head. Aroma is of hops, malt, sweetness, caramel. Taste is of heavy hops and malt. Overall: not much too say... Balance is not too bad. Gotta love hops.

bottle A: light citrusy, chocolate and roastiness. App : clear dark brown pretty close to black with sparing beige head. T/P: body is medium initially sweet then finishes on a light bitterness. O: this beer is too balanced for my taste. Bitterness is lacking would have seen more aroma. Overall drinkable.

Bottle that I took to a tasting at James’ place. Pours a clear brown with a thin white head. Smells of paper and cocoa, coffee and dirty hops. Some brewing aromas, cereal. Medium bodied. Tastes of steeping grains, a light amount of coffee and roast. Cocoa. Something off. Finishes with a lingering bitterness. Meh.

Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry hops with light green hops notes. Taste is mix between some medium roasted malt notes with light dry taste and some green slightly bitter hops. Body is below average with OK carbonation. This one is lacking focus and needs to be somewhat more robust.
