COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boum! Hops. Hops. Even more hops. Alright... we got it... and we deliver. Here is La Houblonière. It is essentially an intense hop infusion... disguised as a blond ale. We kept the malt flavors as well as the alcohol content under control so you could experience an explosion of hops in your mouth. Boum!

Pours an orangish brown with a big frothy off white head. Aroma is big grapefruit and lemon hops. Taste is big grapefruit bitterness with some lemon tartness but it’s missing the smoothness from the hop flavouring. Seems to be all bitter and no sweet. Need the balance to be the next echelon of APA’s.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of medium bitter hops notes with light pine notes also noticeable. Taste is a mix between some medium bitter notes with light pine notes and some dry caramel malt notes also noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad overall but a bit more floral hoppy notes would improve this beer.

Draught at Le Saint-Bock, Montreal, June 8. Pours a deep peach-copper with an average size semi-lasting frothy white head and good lacing on the glass. Mild but hoppy aroma along with fruit and pale malt. Flavour is herbal, hoppy and spicy along with fruit and pale malt.Average bitter finish. Average bodied. Not great but pretty good.

On tap at Les Brasseurs du Monde. Hazy golden/orange with a medium creamy white head and good lacing. Aroma of citrus and hops. Taste of citrus and hops. Medium to high bitterness that last long. Mouthfeel is dry. It’s refreshing and drinkable but not complex or balanced at all (but I think that is what the brewer wanted: hops explosion).

Very complex hoppy aromas, very citrus; notes of lemon, grapefruit, orange, lime, ginger. We also find pine accents and a very slight caramel. Lightly cloudy golden color with very creamy head, good lacing and long lasting. Flavors are hoppy all over with accents of citrus, orange, grass and other ones found in aromas.Caramel is sober with a slight roasted accent. Hops are sharp and long lasting in mouth.

My Bottom Line :
Earthy, coniferous hoppiness possesses strange tree bark and Pine Sol-like aromatics, a flavor display leading to portentous bitterness, alleviated somewhat by a comfortable mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam lasts atop the beautiful clear pale amber (clear before the yeast pour, of course).
-Hops also contribute floral qualities. This is not balanced at all, but that isn’t the point either.
-The hop character is overly coniferous; either the hop selection or the hop quality is a tad deficient for this type of brew, imho.
-Drinkability is reduced by the earthy, coniferous hop character. More citrus brightness and smoothness would have helped.
-Mouthfeel is really seducing, as is the appearance.

Bottle.

500 ml bottle. Pours a foggy golden orange with a long-lasting white head. Tastes like cereals, with a subtle, well-controlled bitterness, reminiscent of flowers and citrus. Medium to full bodied, resinous mouthfeel. Very good pale ale.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass. 01JL12.

App.: Clear amber with a full, tight, off-white meringue. Aroma: Intense pine/resin, dank, some grapefruit, lovely, a wee bit vegetal, peppery, Saison-like characteristics, herbaceous, good stuff. Palate: Medium+ body, relaxed effervescence. Flav.: Lots of pine/resin/peppery hops, a little grapefruit, green peppercorns, Saison-ish, nice; dry with pretty good bitterness and a long, pine/resin finish.

This beer is the BOMB!

Bouteille 500 ml. L’expérience consistait faire une bière ultra houblonnée et en ce sens, c’est un succès. Toutefois, la bière perd son côté rafraichissant. Vaut le détour tout de même.
