L’Interdite, an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA), harkens back to 1919 when the prohibition laws forbidding the manufacture and selling of alcohol were enacted in the USA. L’Interdite invokes a time when beer barrels were dumped into the sewers during the American Prohibition era. When brewing was again permitted, powerful bittering hops rapidly dominated the market. We brew L’Interdite in homage to these times. Hopped for 90 minutes, this beer is flavorful and…very bitter! Floral and herbaceous notes are complemented by complex citrus flavours and a subtle malty taste.

Pours clear coopper, smallish head. Aroma is ... surprisingly weak, actually. Wood, grapefruit, resin and caramel blended in a somewhat non-deScript way. Not bad. Just... weaker than expected. Taste is.... against, a bit weak as well : really low on citrus, and a little stronger on the resin aspects of the hops, but again, malts seems at the front, which is strange at best considering what it is. Traces of veggies and dead leaves. The finale is where this beer really shines : gradual, thick and quite long bitterness, perfectly done. Well balanced. All in all : Balanced beer that got something really well (finale) and other things... well, without going wrong, aren’t exactly top notch. Surprisingly easy to drink.

Robe jaune et opaque. La mousse ne tient pas très longtemps. Arômes de fruits jaunes puissant et céréales. Goût résine, herbal, amertume marquée.Texture plutôt épaisse. Final herbal et résines. Une IPA honnête.

Bottle shared. Sharp hop bite, lots of pine and grassy notes, touch of lemon, long bitter finish. Not really my type of ipa, but fairly decent piney brew still.

From a 341 ml bottle shared at home. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Fruity nose. Flavors of grass and orange with a prominent malt presence. Bitter finish.

341 ml bottle from St Nicholas Metro. Pours a clear amber colour with modest-sized, lasting cream-coloured head. Aroma is caramel, modestly toasty grains, flowers and a little citrus fruit. Flavour is fairly rich with sweet caramel, some toastiness, solid floral hopping with a bit of a citric note. Slick mouthfeel. Solid.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2015 Color ambra carico, schiuma bianco tende al beige poco persistente.

341ml bottle served around 15 degrees in a snifter: Pours a clear copper with about a finger of white foam. The head leaves a rough lacing and carbonation is moderate. The nose is obviously hoppy and floral with a subtle grapefruit on a caramel malts backbone. On the tongue, it kicks off with a dense hoppy attack with a wrapping bitterness that I found was enjoyable and not aggressive. The malts are somewhat perceptible but at 100 IBU, you have to look harder to find them. The brew feels very dry and drops dead in your mouth without the slightest aftertaste. This IPA was the most bitter brew I came about so far and I have to say that the IBU scared me at first but I found it very enjoyable.
