COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Robe noire bien opaque.

Malty and nice floral nose. The beer starts intense, floral, dark and smooth. Slightly roast, caramel, not too much bitterness, not too many hops. Nice dark viscous, roasty malty aftertaste with a nice fitting dark bitter aroma. Great, not sharp, but no Black IPA! And 11% is too much for this!

I agree with Hippyhop, "not really IPAish ". Moderate aroma of molasses and chocolate, but I"m cooking dinner and that is muddling it. Leather? Cherry/Porto? Maybe. Virtually no head. What there was, was light brown. Diminished rapidly leaving a beer that was murky and dark brown. Initial flavour was sweet with a similar finish tasting of coffee/molasses/chocolate. Instant coffee maybe.I don"t taste the alcohol burn that others have mentioned, but it is late in the tasting day and I have have a wee dram of Talisker 10 year old. Cheers!

Deep reddish brown with a one finger khaki head that fades quickly to a sheet. Nose is chocolate and mint with a backing earthy hoppiness and some molasses. Taste is medium bitter dark chocolate with a a pronounced spiciness over a light sweet roasted malt background. Alcohol is still quite evident. Medium oily mouth with slightly soft carbonation. Despite the fact I am a big fan of Black IPAs as well as mint chocolate, this doesn’t really work for me.

Deep black-brown pour with a thin tan head. The nose is really earthy and hoppy. Lots of soft molasses and a bit of woody/resiny hoppiness. Fairly sweet but is well-supported by a hoppy base. Another really lovely beer from these guys. A bit of lingering pepper finish.

There’s nothing really IPAish about this beer, imperial or not. It pours like a stout: stout colour, stout head. Nose is alcohol and ripe pitted fruit and spice. Taste is about the same, with some molasses and liquorice. Finish is slightly this side of dry, but not IPA dry. Not a bad beer by any means, but mislabelled, in my opinion.

Pours an opaque dark brown with a thin mocha head. Aromas of red fruit peels, mint, and chocolate. Tastes are of red fruit, mint, Christmas spices, and alcohol. Overall this tastes like a spicy Christmas beer, and there is a definite alcohol burn build up in the back of the throat. A good one-shot try but probably not one I would buy again, especially with that crazy 11% abv.

375ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau, Quebec. Deep brown in colour with a thin beige head, thin lacing. The aroma is spicy, malty, chocolate and nuts, light hop, some alcohol. The flavour is malt first, lots of alcohol, light hops. Warming mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes hot with a long bitterness. This might be a bit much.

Pours a dark brown colour with a fizzy head that disappears almost instantly, leaving nothing. Particles are floating around, saving the look of this one. The nose is nice, with well-balanced minty hops, chocolate malts, roasted malts and hints of anise. Flavours of roasted malts with the hops showing up in the finish. Grass and light bitterness balanced by the alcohol. The licorice does show in the aftertaste, lingering. A pretty interesting Imperial Black IPA. Goes down nicely.
