Bottle from Brouehaha. Pours a deep nearly opaque brown/red with a bit of fine tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Smell is very interesting, a good amount of sweet caramel malt, some bread, and a lot of doughy yeast with just a hint of some spiciness. Palate is medium bodied with good carbonation. Taste is a bit strange, strong sweetness at first without being overwhelming, which then goes back and forth in intensity a bit, but then a bit of a spicy element comes out, which seems out of place, but does enhance the alcohol burn in the throat a bit. Good quad, but not world class.

341 ml. 11% alcool. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

341mL bottle from Broue Ha Ha. Feels weird pouring a Quad from a twist-top bottle. Clear reddish brown with a tiny beige surface film. The aroma has some nice basic Quad elements with this weird spicy element thrown in that doesn’t seem to fit to be honest. Flavour has some nice deep malt character but again this weird generic spicy sweetness distracts from the over-all product. It’s almost like gingerbread? Or cardamon? Or something in that vain. It’s not awful but it really doesn’t blend well at all, nor does it add anything positive to the Quad laying underneath. It also feels suspiciously light for something at 11% abv. Oh well, I do love the post-modernist image of the monk downing a glass of beer, on the label I mean.

Bouteille 341ml.

Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 21, 2013
Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of sweet candi sugar with fruity ester and some candy-like notes with deep fruit cake malt notes. Taste is a good balanced mix between some fruity ester with loads of candy ester and some solid fruit cake malt notes with an unfortunate overly sweet finish. Body is average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This is a very good beer with nice level of complexity but unfortunately it lacks some attenuation and is too sweet for its own good.

probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 16, 2013
341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep copper with some fine floaters, and a pretty good tan head. Aroma: Fairly nice, slightly butter dark dried fruits, fairly intense spiciness...ginger, allspice, cinnamon (unexpected), lots of brown sugar and treacle, very dark bread crust, what the heck are the spices doing in there?? Palate: Medium+ body with slightly elevated effervescence. Flav.: Tons of ginger and other warm spices...totally inappropriate for the intended style, plenty of dark, dried fruits, brown sugar, treacle, quite sweet, who threw the spices in there??; very sweet with low-to-moderate bitterness and a fairly long, alcoholic and spice finish.

Bizarre. Since when does an ABT have spices added??

341ml bottle. A clear dark amber body with minimal orange head. Aroma of caramel, floral hops, coriander, pepper, a hint of alcohol. Taste of caramel and pepper. dried berries, raisins, grassy hops. Oily, and a little too sweet.
