Abt / Quadrupel

The beer style “Abt” comes from the word “Abbot,” a title bestowed upon the most senior monk in a monastery. Beers marked with the Abt designation were often the strongest, most flavourful or even the most successful beers, featuring dark, rich, complex flavours. These special beers were reserved for the Abbot and his guests. This Quadrupel is next in our Assoifé series. Following Assoifé 6, 8 and 10, we present Assoifé- 12 – Abt, our largest, richest and most complex of the series. Notes of prunes, dates, figs, caramelized grapes and just a hint of spice serve to complement this divine nectar. Now we’re in heaven!

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2013 Pours deep brown with a nice and clean head that clings to the glass. Aroma is spice, spice and more spice... star anises, cloves and nutmeg would be my guess. Taste is sweet -- but that is expected -- with a lot of spices. In fact, spices overwhelm everything. At first I thought "cool winter beer" but as I progress I dig it less and less and less. As a few people mentionned already this is more like a kerstbier than an ABT. You should split this with a few friends and tick off.

341ml bottle. Very dark mahogany in colour, very thin off-white head, light lacing. The aroma is of dark fruits, light spice, coriander, liquorice. The flavour is moderately sweet, light alcohol, earthy, dark fruits, spice. Warming mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, warming. Better then the 8 and 10 and on par with the 6 in terms of score. Still a bit thin for a Quad, nowhere near the top of the heap for Quads.

This ruby red beer with its sugary yeast smell is delicious. After of letting it settle for 3 months, she gained a stronger metalish and yeast taste. Settle this one anywhere in the day. Cheers!

2012 bottle. Pours dark brown with ruby red translucency and thin white head. Aroma of sugar and spices. Taste is overcumbered by cinnamon with ripe fruits and other spices poking through. The cinnamon is a bit of an overkill.

A murky brown with a bit of red hue. Big aims of fruit and spices, overwhelming clove and cinnamon and gingerbread. Taste is strong clove and gingerbread but with some nice dark red fruit in there and caramel. This is real decent beer but I can’t stand clove, reminds me of dental surgery.

Fiche technique Style: Quadruple d’Abbaye Format: 341 ml Taux d?alcool : 11% Température: 10°C
