2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Whew, an explosive spiciness explodes out of that one. It came out in time for Christmas after all. Crystal clarity surprises amidst the terracota to burgundy hue. The head laces pretty well, but the sharp brand new Bordeaux glass must be encouraging that thoroughly I suspect. Fruits and especially spices utterly dominate the nose, the fruits being of a date-like, caramelly nature while the spices seem to focus on coriander and anis although clove and ginger certainly cross my mind. Frankly, the spices seem to have stripped out some of the malt nuances, exit caramel or chocolate nuances, exit rich the typical rich grapeyness. This, paired with the intense filtration which has more than likely removed texture feel like minor tweaking could improve it dramatically. As it is, it does not feel complex/captivating enough for me to endure the heavy sugariness by processing with further purchases. Relatively thin, yet slick and sticky mouthfeel with sparse carbonation. While the alcohol is more than a mere presence, it is never exagerated and that makes it less fatiguing on the palate. This falls quite outside the scope of my personal preferences where I like dark phenolic strong Belgian brews more on the vinous and attenuated realm. As a side note, I added a bottle to a spaghetti sauce, inspired by Bier Circus’ Chimay spaghetti sauce and it added a great kick.

341 ml bottle.. I’ve already had their 8 and 10 but never had the 12.
I’m not disappointed it is quite amazing! I would go out and compare it to a trappiste Rochefort 10. the nutty/fruity complex aromas are so good and well balanced ... this version is better than the other ones in my opinion! doesnt feel like having a 11% beer. quite enjoyable in a very cold winter day !!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of caramel, nutty and faint milk chocolate, moderate cooked orange and dough for the hops and yeast, with background notes of wine, smoke, brown sugar, nutmeg and a hint of vinegar in the begining. Head is small, fizzy, light tan with excellent but slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is muddy dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is lightly to moderately bittersweet. Palate is medium to full, creamy in texture which is slightly hidden by the fizzy carbonation, and finishes lightly astringent and moderately to heavily alcoholic. Nice complex aromas and well balanced flavors from this tasty Quadrupel, but you can definitely feel the alcohol.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a terrific quad. It has a great spicy fruity nose and a complex, well-balanced taste that has is not too sweet with a touch of bitterness. If it was Belgian and getting rated by people who love quads it would be rated much higher. Unfortunately I only bought a couple of bottles while I was in Montreal and now need to take a seven hour car ride to replentish my supply. If you’re in Canada, buy some

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Single from a local IGA store. Pours a deep amber colour with a soapy head that is beige, has average fizzy retention and a little lacing. The aromas are quite spiced up, with nutmeg and a little cinnamon, reminding me of eggnog and Christmas dessert. Light dark fruits in the background like raisins, plums. The spices in the taste are there, but blended mildly with the rest. Sure feels like a Christmas Ale, more than a Quadrupel. Maybe a little too rich overall.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Quite a decent effort. Some tweeking and this could really be a good quad. Pours dark brownish red with ok head and lacing. Aroma of oak, vanilla, some raisin and prune, pretty well-disguised booze and Belgian florals. Finishes with light sweetness. Bottle.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2013/08/06 - Pours a clear, deep ruby/brown colour with a thin beige head that settles to a surface film. Aroma is dough, dark fruits and a strange and overwhelming gingerbread spicing. Taste is dark fruits, sweet malts and (once again) that overwhelming gingerbread spicing. The spicing seems to accentuate the sweetness, to the point of being too sweet. Mouthfeel is medium with low carbonation and a sweet/warming aftertaste. This would probably be a solid quad if not for the overpowering spicing and cloying sweetness.
