Bonne odeur vive.

Nice! Pours a dark brown colour with a light brown coloured foamy head that sticks around till the midway point. Fair carbonation. Good clean mouthfeel, not much of a bitter aftertaste, as was expecting. Aromas of coffee grinds, caramel, malts. Flavours of dark roasted malts, coffee, molasses, spices. Easy going down. Reasonably priced and can be purchased individually (not having to buy six pack).

Bottle from Halles St-Jean. Aroma: dark fruits, caramel, floral. App: clear brown reddish, small beige head. Taste and palate: medium to full body, medium sweetness, fruity dry finish. Overall: good surprise, maybe because I wasn?t expecting much but ended up really liking it. Quite easy to drink.

Pours a hazy brown sporting a deep amber hue, topped by a finger of fizzy/creamy tanned head. Retention is moderate and fine lacing remains as the head sets. The nose is sweet, milk chocolate, hazelnuts, dark fruits. The taste is milk chocolate paired with roasted nuts. Sesame seeds. Very liquourish but not boozy. Carbonation is not really present on the tongue. Finishes long, nutty, earthy and moderately bitter. Very good beer to pair with your favorite decadent dessert. Cheers!

Pours a dark ruby brown with a thin off white top. Aroma is roasty malts and raisins. Taste is well carbonated, fizzy mouthfeel with fig, raisin and roasted malt.

This is a weird one. The pour is beautiful: great dark caramel colour, good retention, decent lacing. The nose is less impressive. There’s some sweet fruit, caramel, a bit of roasted grain, but also a lot of what smells like overripe banana and rubbing alcohol. Taste was totally unexpected. Toasted grain and nuts, maybe some chocolate, molasses and a surprisingly bitter, hoppy finish. There’s a surprising lack of sweetness here too. Other than the rubbing alcohol/rotten banana scent it’s actually pretty tasty stuff, but calling it an abbey dubbel seems dubious to me.

On tap at the brewpub. It pours a deep red and I got a bit of raspberry in the nose, the taste is dark molasses, sweet pepper, fruits, bready Belgian style goodness.

Fiche technique Style: Bière d’Abbaye Double Format: 341 ml Taux d?alcool : 6,5% Température: 9°C

Poured from a bottle. Malt and very slight chocolate aroma. Not a very good lacing. Good dark brown color. The taste seems weak for a double.
