Brune belge / Dubbel

Through their knowledge and rigor, Trappist monks made great contributions to the development of modern brewing traditions . Driven by their desire for a more delectable beverage, the monks worked continuously to improve their methods and some even went so far as to offer forgiveness to the faithful in exchange for beer recipes . There are now only seven Trappist monasteries producing beer. It is in their honor and in memory of the many monks who developed and enjoyed these types of beer over the centuries that we have created this divine nectar. Assoifé – 8 is a Belgian-style Dubbel that presents malted notes of dried fruit, accented with a subtle hint of molasses and toasted hazelnuts, ending with a slightly sweet and slightly bitter finish.

Pours a hazy brown sporting a deep amber hue, topped by a finger of fizzy/creamy tanned head. Retention is moderate and fine lacing remains as the head sets. The nose is sweet, milk chocolate, hazelnuts, dark fruits. The taste is milk chocolate paired with roasted nuts. Sesame seeds. Very liquourish but not boozy. Carbonation is not really present on the tongue. Finishes long, nutty, earthy and moderately bitter. Very good beer to pair with your favorite decadent dessert. Cheers!

341 ml bottle. Pours a nice hazy brown, with a thin beige head. Smells of oak, tastes of typical belgian yeast, bready, fieldberries, hazelnuts. Very little bitterness ; almost imperceptible. Lingering green grapes taste. Body is watery, carbonation is somewhat high, alcohol is imperceptible. A very good double abbey.

341ml bottle. Beautiful deep amber body, medium crème brûlée head with good retention. Aroma of leather, roasted malt, toffee, figs, dried fruit and floral hops. Taste of roasted malt, caramel, a good bouquet of floral hops, a little bit of woodiness, some tart berries. Medium body with a nice roasted malt aftertaste. Lovely dubbel.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar and fruity ester is quite charming. Taste is a nice balance mix between some candi sugar notes with some fruity ester and solid malt backbone with light dry fruits. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice drinkability/complexity level.

Bottle. I am not a pro in Dubbel, but this one seems to be pretty near the style (according to what I read) The smell of the beer is very yeasty, but fruity too. In the mouth, the beer is very heavy. Good, but heavy. It is a fruity beer, very sweet. The color of the beer is Ruby Red. Hazy, but not totally cloudy. The finish of this beer is lightly bitter, almost sour. Very complex, but definitly for degustation, not for drinking on a patio.

Cheers!

Nice! Pours a dark brown colour with a light brown coloured foamy head that sticks around till the midway point. Fair carbonation. Good clean mouthfeel, not much of a bitter aftertaste, as was expecting. Aromas of coffee grinds, caramel, malts. Flavours of dark roasted malts, coffee, molasses, spices. Easy going down. Reasonably priced and can be purchased individually (not having to buy six pack).
