Ahhh! English bitters! A very popular style in British pubs. They are easy to drink and highly thirst quenching with their slightly malty and hoppy dry profile. Our rye version brings a unique flavour to the blend to which the English hops Golding and Fuggle are added. La Seiglerie offers the typical bitter’s slight maltiness, with spicy flavours introduced by a good amount of malted rye. Dry hopping brings a floral finish without much bitterness. I’ll have another one, me lad!

Pours a clear amber topped by a finger or so of tanned frothy head showing good retention and lacing properties. The nose is pink grapefruit, rye, roasted nutty malts, earthy hops and some caramel. The taste is bold with pink grapefruit hitting the palate first, closely followed by the nutty malts and caramel. The rye and hops bring a nice bitterness all the way to the finish with a floral aspect. At such a low ABV, you don’t expect a lot of body but this one surprises. The brew is thick, heavy and holds a subtle carbonation. This is a meal more than a beer. Cheers!

If nothing else these guys are near the top of the list for weird Quebec beer names. Pour is cloudy amber with a big, persistent tan cap that leaves a bit of lacing. Nose is floral/herbal/woody hops with peppery rye and light bread notes. Tasty is slightly sweet, moderately bitter and a touch sour. It’s a bit watery but for a 4% beer this stuff has character. Nice peppery notes throughout that linger along with a light floral/resinous bitterness on the finish. Overall decent bitter with a nice hop profile.

On tap at the brewery, this rye bitter poured a beautiful amber with a thick fluffy beige head. It has a spicy fruity aroma with quite a thick mouthfeel for 4%and a nice malty spice character. A good table beer.
