(hiver 2006-07)

The color is a light hazy blond with a white head. The taste is a mix of wheat, malt and bananas with added spicies. All of these ingredients also give it a nice sour taste. The aroma is of bananas and cereals. I had this one at the Oktoberfest in Mascouche.

Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 12, 2006
Hazy milky golden, the head on this one is less ephemeral than most of their other offerings, thanks to the well extracted wheat, bringing on cohesive grainy and cerealic notes that abide an underlying tartness which is invigorating and refreshing simultaneously. Besides, bristles of spiciness meet a confident banana juiciness. Restricted bubble size does not handicap its authenticity nor drinkability. Good weizen.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2007 (re-rate). Original rating was 2.0 and was likely due to a problematic keg. I then had it tap tap at Saint-Bock and on at the B&F pub and it was constant and good. Very cloudy yellow body with a creamy long lasting white head. Deep wet barn aroma. Taste is very lemony with bananas, wet hay and cereals. Round body and nice tartness. Thicker and tastier than the average weizen. Very good. I liked this Greluchon (lazy seducer) and I’d like to be one too but I’m just good with the lazy part.

Any first impressions?
-A ring of foam crowns the opaque whitened yellow.
-Cloves and bananas galore in a telling, classic, frank weizen aroma.
-Bubblegum, cloves, and bananas are ably developed into the sweet and spicy flavor spectrum.
-The round mouthfeel and soft, not fluffy, carbonation remain drinkable and chewy.

What if you dig deeper?
-Some citrusy fruitiness in the nose increases complexity.
-Milky and juicy, this is yet another piece of effortless drinking from Brasseurs et Frères.
-This is an apt weizen, and probably my favorite tap beer of theirs; although that might change when/if I get to taste them without waiting 20 minutes for my glass and beer to warm up.

On tap at the brewery.

Samples Bières et Découvertes festival, hazy yellow honey hue, with an off-white head, yeasty wheaty nose, with a fruity note of bananas, pinapples, citrus fruits, with hint of spicy cloves and cinnamon in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice wheaty character, with citrus fruit fruitiness of grapefruits and lemons, milky accent, subtle spiciness of cloves, leading towards a zesty citrusy, faint floral hops bitterness finish.

(Rating #641)

Hazy golden weizen with a thin white head. Aroma of bananas, cloves and pineapples, very estery, and light phenolics. In mouth, a sweet malt with bubblegum quality, light and quaffable. On tap at Bieres et Découvertes, Mascouche, Sept. 9 2006.
