Blast of burnt hazelnut and vanilla aroma. Opaque brown-black with a light brown cover. Nice vanilla and burnt nutty flavour. Bitterness comes primarily from roasted barley, but there is a significant amount of hops. Strawberry and citrus notes. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly bitter finish. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Pours a cola like body with a frothy mocha top that leaves some lace. Nose of smoke, chocolate, yeast, a bit of coffee. Tastes very grainy, with coffee, a bit woodsy, quite yeasty, a bit of vanilla. Grainy texture with lingering funky aftertaste. Something missing here, but overall still good. Thanks Milos! Snoro (229), Montréal, Quebec, Canada

Pours a thin looking dark black with a hefty tan head, though the bubbles are kind of ugly, and with the volume I’m suspecting it’s infected, but fortunately it didn’t gush. Aromas are… unexpected. Old cardboard, smoke, and some berries?. Rather thin, and oddly sweet, with more off flavors. Finishes with a bit more smoke, grain, and cardboard, and more berries. Better than I was expecting, but nothing crazy. JoeMcPhee (5056), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Tap at Vices et Versa. Deep black beer. The aroma is quite interesting. Lots of heavy dried/charred fruit. Intensely fruity with a heavy brown sugary sweetness. There is a bit of tarry, black licorice and a lingering herbal spiciness. A bit of cinnamon and clove in back of the chewy, sweet dark malts. bedainedebiere (298), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada

The aroma is more of caramel than other stouts I had. The texture is a little thin, even close from watery. Carbonation is a little strange, like patched fizzyness. Chocolate and espresso are obvious but an also rather unique kind of bitterness, interesting and long-lasting, dominates much of the mouthfeel. A good stout, distinct, that offers something different than many bland stouts. But I don’t like it that much... swoopjones (1932), Buffalo, New York, USA

Aromas of roasted malts & chocolate. Could swear i had olive but who knows. Smooth tasting, little light bodied. Not real complex at 4,8% but solid.
