Brown color and minimal head. Nutty aroma and taste. A perfect beer in it’s style.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2006 Unfiltered first batchesLots of sediments punctuate the almost opaque brownish garnet hue. Large and slowly diminishing ivory head. Highly fruity nose contains a good dose of esters and an inherent spiciness that hints at oregano and mint though the very soft (perhaps too much so) hops. Lightest orange and lime leaves hints shows up toward the finish. Competent carbonation, rather low, but easy-going. Soft light-medium body, juicy and grapey. Lots of dunkel character, yet with spicy yeastiness. Original, if not mindblowing.

Bottle (341ml). Shared with tupalev, his bottle. Poured a cloudy deep walnut with a decent creamy off-white head. Rich and sweet aroma of nougat, chocolate toffee, very nutty and yeasty, light roast character. Taste is also quite sweet, very nutty, almost to the point of bitterness, there’s also some bitter chocolate and even a hint of dry hops in the quick finish - taste is quite bold and roastier than the aroma. Only average body, but not a problem, this is a drinker not a thinker - very sticky/syrupy mouthfeel, nicely carbonated - very refreshing brown ale, easy to drink, a malty treat.

Bouteille de 341 ml. Couleur noisette avec un moyen collet. Arome intéressant de malte de caramel, avec un soupson de whisky. Goût légé de malte rich, peu impossant de caramel et de noix.

Recent ratings are lower than many previous ones. It is still a good beer, with a powerful roasted malt taste, distant notes of sweetness, and a hoppiness I first thought boring but that I came to appreciate its fruityness and persistant slighlty-tingling mouthfeel.

On tap at Vice et Versa. Pours a clear brown with a thin white head. Nutty malt, toast. Nutty with some nice crisp malt notes. Clear and crisp with a nutty bitterness on the finish. Easy drinking.

Dark amber color, with a frothy beige head, toasty malty nose, caramelized malt and some toffeeish notes, with a sweet chocolate candy bar accent, hint of nuttiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet caramel nalt character, nutty accent, brown sugar, toffee note, nutmeg spiciness, cookie dough, leading towards an earhty grainy malt finish.
