3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 BreWedge (172) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 5, 2013
341 ml bottle. Pours a clear but very dark brown with a small, short-lived mocha colored head. Aroma is of coffee and a touch of earth & chocolate. Taste is dominated by bitter coffee bean, nuts, and unsweetened chocolate. Medium body, thick texture, and a lengthy bitter finish. Interesting beer but a little bit harsh compared to other coffee porters (6.9% abv). Great that they used some of the proceeds to fight prostate cancer, kudos to Brasseurs Illimites.

Bottle that I took to Andy’s New Year’s Par-tay! Pours a hazed brown with a thin white head. Big roast on the nose, cocoa and toast. Medium bodied, cocoa, roast, chocolate. Roast into the finish. Really nice. Much better than expected.

Bouteille 341ml.

Bottle (341 ml). Dark brown, small beige head and no lacing. Aroma of coffee and hazelnut. Taste of coffee and hazelnut. Slight acidic presence. Thin body. If I want to drink cold coffee, I can buy cold coffee...

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dandeman (213) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 11, 2012
Very powerful chocolate aroma with notes of roasted coffee, molasses and cherry liquor. A strong and complex nose.
Appearance: Black with a very small and sparkling head; going down fast. Interesting lacing.
Taste: Attack is soft and chocolaty with roast notes and a coffee finish. A good mix of chocolate and coffee. Palate is soft and slightly sparkling, body is light to medium and finish is very long lasting with notes of half sweet and half bitter coffee. Molasses notes are also adding to softness.
Un porter réussi; mi-sucré, mi-amer. Bien balancé.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 AlainG (616) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 2, 2012
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 VT (796) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 1, 2012
341 ml bottle. Pours a reddish dark brown to black, with a nice beige head. Smell is lots of coffee grains, roast, chocolate. Taste is roast, dark coffee, roasted malt. Some smoke. Finish is dark coffee, a touch of earth. Well balanced. Medium body, some viscosity. Weak to medium carbonation. Fine porter, not as sweet as I was expecting, but it did deliver in the "coffee" department. I was expecting sh*t after their failed "political comment" beers (for your own sake, do not try La Matraque), but I was pleasantly surprised by this offering.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 czar (2217) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 26, 2012
pours dark brown without a small beige head, little retention. strong coffee notes. roasted malt, almost burnt, but lacks in overall malt structure. light acidity and bitter coffee awkwardness. booze helps a bit here to level up flavours. still... lactose-like feeling. average carbonation, light body - oily, coffee and grass finish. nice effort but... meh.
