A hazed dark brown ale with a thin lacing dark mocha head. In aroma, sweet woody malt with dark fruits, doppelbock-like. In mouth, a light bodied offering with a sweet dark fruit malt, light woody notes, faint dark maple syrup, decent.

My Bottom Line:
Toasted malts and maple syrup coalesce in this pillowy, but perhaps linear, Maple Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam builds a ring around the clear dark red.
-Light fruit jam notes are created by the union of residual sugars and subtle esters.
-Faint mineral angles are tasted.
-The finish is a tad too quiet for my tastes. Some wooden hop bitterness would have helped. But then again, that’s probably not what the sugar shack people wanted...
-The flavor profile is harmonious throughout.
-The aroma doesn’t herald much maple syrup, but the flavor profile delivers, with parsimony.
-The mouthfeel is perhaps my favorite feature; full, yet easygoing, effervescent, yet never prickly.

Bottle.

Rastacouere (6119) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 19, 2011
The thin veil of foam quickly departs the crystal clear mahogany pour. Woodsy and slightly rooty nose reminds of tree bark and chestnuts. Just a little grainy, the malt profile takes the toasty route, quickly delivering maple flavours in spades. It remains straightforward in that regard, but well focused. From the beginning to the finish, the hops remain mostly a neglectable quantity, as the sweetness remains at high, albeit tolerable levels for drinkability to remain very good. Slightly sticky mouthfeel with apt carbonation managing to attenuate the maple sweetness. Warming up, the wood from the nose develops an almost earthy feature and a molasses cookies feel (bear paws?). That part is most pleasant, reminiscent of childhood memories.

Dark red in color with a ring of foam and some lacing. Pleasant aroma of maple taffee with sugary malts. Despite those facts, nothing seems over the place. Flavors are, for sure, maple oriented with pieces of fruits and toasted notes. Mouthfeel is like a young maple tree: medium size but pretty solid. Bubbles are bursts of happiness and help to provide a slick texture. Aftertaste is mainly on the sweet side, a bit far from bitterness. Overall, a good one// Tmavo červenej farby s kruhom peny a niektoré šnurovanie. Príjemnú vôňu javorového taffee so sladkou sladov.

Pours a dark brown body with average carbonation and a thin off-white foamy/bubbly head. Aroma is dominated by sweetness and carries hoppy and woody hints. Well balanced malty/hoppy taste with maple and plummy notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet, moderately warming finish. Good work.

Bottle. Brown pour, some head. Aroma of cheap fermentation, home-made wine and other rotting things. Some maple is detectable, but it isn’t very pronounced. Taste is sweet and pretty boring. Good enough able to finish my glass, but bad enough that was I was happy when I knew I would never be drinking another sip of this again.

341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear deep copper with a thin tan head. Aroma: Some nice fruity dark malts, caramel, toffee, treacle, dark dried fruits, a touch of brightness, bread crust, toast, sweet and sticky, maybe a touch of smokiness. Palate: Medium body with full, fine effervescence. Flav.: Similar to the nose, a pleasant, malt-forward brew, a touch of earthiness and nuttiness, fruits, caramel, brown sugar, some brightness; off-dry with minimal bitterness and a brown sugar and slightly bright fruit finish.

Nothing mind-blowing, but likeable.
