COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aged for several months in used, Templeton rye whiskey barrels, this Belgian style ale combine the best of the brewhouse with the best of the cellar. A relatively simple malt bill utilizes the finest two row pilsner malt, with just a touch of crystal and aromatic malt. A generous amount of house-made dark candi beet sugar is added for both color and flavor.

Bottle pours orange brown with one finger muddy white head. Aroma of dark fruits and faint whiskey. Taste initially sweet with whiskey and malts, dark fruits. As it warms the sweetness fades. Finish sour. Palate thick.

Initially flavor excellent but just couldn’t maintain it. I just don’t think the underlying quad is strong enough to support the barrel aging. I love quads and barrel aged beers so had high hopes that this couldn’t quite live up to.

Bottle 750ml. Pours brown with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of malt, fruits, yeast, green apples, alcohol. Taste is of malt, fruits, sligth acid, some alcohol. Palate: Medium body. Overall: Pretty good, reminescent of wine barrel-aged stuff.

bottle shared by mathieuc, thanks! pours hazy light reddish with a low off-white head, decent retention, abv and BA-wise. some caramel and demerara but mainly fruitiness with a hint of red fruit tartness - raisins - maybe even some other vinous characteristics, oaky acidity - few acetic and peppery tingling notes. floral-herbalness, smooth banana bourbony esters along with candi and few spices - shy yeast. average to soft carbonation, medium body - oily, nice herbal-citrusy lightly acidic finish. more of a barleywine to my sense. good!

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by mathieuc, thanks! Dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of raisins (lots!), green apple (don’t know if it’s an off-flavor or if it’s from the whiskey), fruits, slight caramel and some alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet with fruits, green apple and slight acidic presence (not unpleasant). Medium to heavy body (but not that heavy for an 11,5% abv beer). Good beer, even better when give some time to breath. I liked it.

750 ml waxed bottle served in a Southern tier tulip. Thanks to supercolter for the beer. A: Pours a hazy brown color with a light khaki head. It recedes quickly to a thin fizzy head. Some splotchy lace is left down the glass. S: Some tobacco and dark fruit flavors with a little kick of whiskey. Roasted malts with an underlying brown sugar sweetness. T: Lots of sugary sweetness and dark fruit flavors. Some leather with the fruity Belgian yeast. Whiskey bite with some oak. M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation level. The finish is a little boozy, but not hot. O: This was a solid BA quad. The booze was noticeable, but it wasn’t hot and didn’t detract from the overall flavor profile. Serving type: bottle

Pours a deep reddish brown color with a medium tan head and some decent lacing on the glass.

The aroma is fig, oak, & anise. Eventually as I swish it around some dark cherry and bourbon character show up.

The flavor is pretty boozy, but it’s nice as well. The beer is sweet without being cloying with nice dark fruit notes of fig and loads of raisin. There is some bright fruitiness as well, particularly pear. The spice element is nice again with some anise & maybe a touch of cinnamon. The whiskey character is not particularly rich, but some oak and vanilla notes are nice additions here.

The beer is viscous but also well carbonated and prickly on the tongue.

Pretty friggin good.

hazy caramel color, slight head. nose is predominantly buttery toffee with notes of bourbon. flavor is equal parts toffee and bourbon and is quite woody/earthy. only mild hints of alcohol in the finish, which is somewhat surprising for an 11.5% ABV beer. very nice.

Pours a dark deep red. Light mocha head, dissipates. Heavy and sweet bourbon nose, medium body , sweet and spicy bite, excellent bourbon, caramel and malt. Woody, sweet finish that lasts long enough.
