OhioDad (2492), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Sep 6, 2007 12oz bottle given to me by Sliffy! - Thanks Dan! - Pours dark brown with a short tan head and a little lace. Lots of roasted malts in the aroma, a little coffee and just a hint of chocolate. Flavor is roasty mostly but there is some element of fake chocolate here that I have trouble getting past. A touch of coffee there too but a little tartness keeps me from really liking it too. Palate seems a touch on the fizzy side. Drinkable but really that’s about the extent of it..
amish_caravan (210), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 5, 2008 taste is of coffee and roast. maybe a bad bottle but the smell was quite skunky and so was the taste. IlanMan (534), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 5, 2008 Pour is of course dark with a creamy tan head. Aroma is of burnt malt, light cocoa, and coffee. Flavor is slightly bitter with a lot of coffee and light chocolate. Smoth palate. Altogether not good. Not so good experiences with brau brothers. Won’t buy again. Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Dusty, lightly sour aroma. Dark brown to black with a thin tan head. Tart, sour and tangy with some roast malt notes. I can’t say much more because there isn’t much more. This beer is poorly brewed or poorly bottled. Veldy (42), Coon Rapids, Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2008 This beer is drinkable [too bad I have a six pack of it]. The beer does not hold a head [classic test is to drink a beer first, then pour the "test" beer in the emptied glass ... this avoids the head being affected by soap residue]. A little over carbonated. The roasted barley character is there and that is positive. However, there is a slight tangy flavor that doesn’t quite belong. It doesn’t taste like a Guiness Extra Stout would where they "sour" it a bit, but yet, it almost tastes a little of lactic acid. I don’t taste or feel the "cream" that is in the name. I expect the sweetness of lactose in a cream stout and it was not to be found [but perhaps it was converted by a bacterial culture?]. Color is good and a bit thin on the palette.
Sorry Brau ... this beer just doesn’t light my fire. thejoeshow (111), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice thick dark black color. Light is only visible at the sides of the glass. It has a nice frothy tan head that likes to hang around for the ride. Aroma is of chocolate and coffee mixed with a hint of cola and milk. Smells very tasty. Lots of chocolate flavors. Obviously very malty. The taste trails off a bit a the end and finishes with that coffee flavor that comes through in the aroma. Easy to drink, with a creamy mouthfeel. Not bad at all.
