COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Elisha’s Olde Ale is an ale we brewed with Minnesota and South Dakota Homebrewers here in Lucan. It’s an excellent olde ale cracking 10%, brewed with molasses, and aged on lightly toasted oak. This is the winner of the 2009 Brau Bros SD Homebrewers Challenge. We’ll release about 100 cases sometime in February 2010.

750 c&c from Guerde. No doubt the 2010! Thanks a lot guy. Pours hazy dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aromas of treacle, raisin and arguably oak. Med+ body. Flavor is dark malt, big dose of treacle, and some minor dark fruity and woody astringency. Heat isn’t noticeable. It’s pretty smooth stuff, and tasty to boot. Is it to style? Sadly I just don’t get many old ales. So thanks again Guerde.

Bottle. Cloudy brown color, small white head, good lacing. Aroma of boozy brown bread. Taste is coffeegrounds, booze. OK.

Pours a hazed copper color with a finger of off-white head. Smells fairly typical for an old ale: toffee, brown sugar, and toasted malt with some hints of dark fruit. Has a bit of a soy sauce aroma to it, though. The flavor is slightly watery, but still has that soy sauce thing going on. There’s a mild roasted quality as well as some toffee, toasted malt, and sweet sugar. Maybe just a hint of fruit.

Bottle. Pours clear amber to brown with a small, fizzy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, dark fruity esters and light alcohol with a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

Pours a brownish color. Aroma is sweet and boozy. Ripe fruit and caramel aroma and flavor. Sweet and malty, quite a powerful flavored beer. Pretty good. Thanks to JW77.

750mL bottle thanks to Bob! Poured medium brown with a nice cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sour bourbon, metallic notes, herbal stuff, and an odd blend of darker fruits.. deeper down was some molasses and airy yeast.. really weird, and I didn’t like it one bit. The flavor was unfortunately along the same lines.. slick molasses, sweet caramel, and buttery notes at the core, with almost dank oak, metallic notes, odd tacky fruits, and a bunch of residual sugars around.. alcohol was fairly well masked.. sour with a lot of ugliness on the long finish. Sour, slick, and disjointed on the palate.. seemed to be underattenuated and possibly infected.. yikes.

750ml bottle. It pours a burgundy brown with a foamy off-white head that produces some nice lace. The smell is rich and carmally with an alcoholic perfume. The taste is very earthy and toffee-like. Very sweet. Interesting. I am buzzin hard right now Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-16-2011 05:40:21

Bottle:   Deep brown, reddish hues, moderate frothy beige head, spotty lacing.   Minimal nose, slight bread and nuts.   A little dank cardboard.   I suppose some overcooked vegetables as well, brussel sprouts is it.   Bready and nutty on the tongue, very malty, moderate sweetness, with that aformentioned brussel sprouts and wet dank cardboard.   Decent but those last two items deter it a bit.   Not sure if this was barrel aged, but the oak is not that hearty.   Could use some bourbon character, vanilla, more molasses.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Bready finish, malty, semi-sweet.   Decent, but has a few little things that detract.   Thanks Bob!

750 ml bottle I’ve had since early-mid 2010 (released February 2010), and I’ve since forgotten where I got it. Thanks, friendly RB trader! Pours a clear amber with a beige ring for a head. Aroma of caramel, oak, dried fruits, brown sugar, and some earth. Flavor of caramel, toast, brown sugar, dates, and some bitter earty notes at the end. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, malty mouthfeel. Good old ale. Has held up well over 3+ years.

Pours deep ruby with thin off white head, aroma is caramel, nut, brown sugar, and molasses. Taste is sweet and thick with caramel and molasses overtones, finishing a bit boozy and dry.
