COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bunches and bunches of wet hops are added at first wort, through the brewing process, and finally at conditioning through dry-hopping. Brau Bros’ boasts the state’s largest hopyard, with eleven varieties spread out over the eastern acreage. Harvested only minutes before use, multiple varieties contribute a complex blend of hop bitterness, flavor, and aroma. Our unique soil and terrain produce unequaled hops and contribute to a one-of-a-kind ale. Notes of grass, herbs, and green tea are evident and are indicative of truly authentic wet hopped beer. We preview darker October beers by incorporating Vienna Malt along with premium Two Row Pale Malt and tangy Biscuit Malt.

15/22S/167/14/2222 date code, tasted on November 5. Your guess is as good as mine as to how old this beer was. My tasting leads me to think this one may have had some age on it. Dark amber color, moderate carbonation, small off-white head that fades quickly, but has good lacing. Aroma is citrus hops with bready malt. Initial taste almost a British malt followed by hops piney bitterness, with the bitterness lingering into the aftertaste. The mouth feel is thicker than expected for the style, with the maltiness dominating the initial taste. Due to the initial maltiness, which does hold up throughout, this beer is better balanced that a typical American IPA, but it is still dominated by the hops in the end. The hops taste is more resin than citrus, despite the aroma. I really have no idea how this “fresh hops” IPA compares with what is expected from a “fresh hops” ale. Whatever the fresh hops are supposed to bring, this seems more like a standard IPA, except that the British-style malts are more present that with a west coast style IPA. In other words, I got nothing but a normal IPA with better malt balance. I really like the almost British bitter-style malt presence. Even so, given the price demanded for this six pack, it will be difficult to justify buying more.

From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Grassy nose. Flavors of resin with subtle citrus notes. Bitter finish.

12 oz bottle from Discount Liquors in Milwaukee. Maybe a bit old? Aroma is malt and some wet grass. Amber color with a small head. Taste is very malty, with the hops in the background, though the fresh hops are obvious from the grassy taste. Not bad overall, but not great for what is supposed to be a fresh hop beer. I think a choice of slightly less overwhelming malts would have made this beer a great one.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, biscuit, light honey, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity of citrus/floral hops and fairly balanced malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, caramel, biscuit, light pine, light honey, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, caramel, biscuit, light honey, light pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance of citrus/grassy hops with moderate malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice wet hop ale. Good balance of citrus/grassy hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Very malt forward, but may have been a bit old. Hops were pleasant but a bit bland with nothing standing out.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-tan body. Foamy off-white head. Earthy hop vine taste. Grassy and dry, with some familiar citrus tones as well. Hefty mat body, full bodied. The massive malt backbone sort of overwhelms the hops, though they are certainly still there. OK.
