COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moo Joos combines the full body of a Milk Stout with the silky smoothness of an Oatmeal Stout. Lactose sugar in the boil contributes a full and creamy mouthfeel while toasted and flaked oats in the mash round out the beer with an oily texture. A deep malt bill builds layers of roasty notes with hints of chocolate, coffee and anise. A traditional British Cask Yeast is then pitched, which leaves us with a fruity, malty ale.

Pours nearly black with a fine tan head that faded into a decent lacing. Aroma was of coffee, cocoa, malt. Taste was as follows: malt, coffee, toffee, chocolate hints and a smooth moderate hop finish with an afterglow of coffee and cocoa. Palate is good. This is a very smooth and taste oatmeal stout.

Looks like a fresh pint of black coffee, near zero clarity, thin latte cap. Smells of fresh cream, oily coffee beans, sweet honey, more coffee, really a pleasant aroma I think. Taste - milk and oatmeal as promised, aftertaste like a dark roast with half and half, the oats take a back seat to the lingering latte flavors - mouthfeel could stand to get beefed up a bit. Overall, this is a solid offering from a brewery that is really hit or miss for me, I’d recommend this to any stout fan

Bottle. Poured a deep dark brown with no real head to speak of. Aroma was sweet, with a little chocolate and dark malt. The flavor followed this with some slight burnt taste and a hint of coffee. Very slight bitter finish. Just a little runny, but overall a good brew. I’d seek it out again.

Mandatory - serve at near room temperature, otherwise it’s character falls apart. Pour is still dark coffee brown with shallow, nicely laced, brief, coffee-cream head. Aroma is chocolate/treacle, vanilla/butterscotch. Taste coffee and near burnt toast with a sweet center. Medium body slighlty salt with a sweet dark toast finish, leaving a sweet coating in the mouth. Pleasantly drinkable. Original review of slight chilled bottle. Pours dark coffee brown with shallow, nicely laced, brief, coffee-cream head. Aroma is chocolate, treacle and nearly burnt toast. Medium body, a slight effervescence under the tongue. Initially sweet, then bittersweet chocolate, slight saltiness, and that near burnt toast finish that lingers on the palate. Overall it’s drier then then I would expect from the oatmeal/milk designation. I wanted to like it more.

Bottle poured into a nonick pint. Black with next to no head; tons of coffee and espresso notes with some toasty caramel mixed in; up front the taste is mainly coffee with a very slight malty sweetness; aftertaste is rather bitter and lasting; palate is very low carbonation and a bit thin. Overall this beer leaves something to be desired. Would love a little more of the sweetness from the aroma in the taste.

Thanks to mnbearsfan for this 12 oz bottle via trade. Poured a thin black with a mocha/tan small one-finger head. Nose was some smoke/ash, chocolate, molasses and brown sugar. Taste was vanilla, oatmeal, chocolate and coffee as was expected, but also some fruit (cherries?). Body was smooth but thin with medium carbonation. Overall, a good offering in a style I like, but I have found others I like more.
