Moo Joos combines the full body of a Milk Stout with the silky smoothness of an Oatmeal Stout. Lactose sugar in the boil contributes a full and creamy mouthfeel while toasted and flaked oats in the mash round out the beer with an oily texture. A deep malt bill builds layers of roasty notes with hints of chocolate, coffee and anise. A traditional British Cask Yeast is then pitched, which leaves us with a fruity, malty ale.

Pours an opaque black with a finger sized tan head. Nose is caramel, molasses and malt. Thick viscosity and very creamy on the palate. The taste is full of dark roasted malt, oats, caramel and a hint of coffee. A touch of hops on the finish helps this beer to stay dry and not too sweet. An excellent milk stout. Try it with barbeque chicken.

Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. It poured a dark brown with a lighter brown head with streaky lacing and a chocolate malt aroma. A strong roasted malt taste with good carbonation.

Sample at Winterfest. From notes. Not at all what I expected. Getting a lot of smoke on this one. Nose is some smokey coffee and chocolate. Flavor is much the same, with some interesting bready oats. Thick and rich mouthfeel, the highlight of this beer.

Pours nearly black with a fine tan head that faded into a decent lacing. Aroma was of coffee, cocoa, malt. Taste was as follows: malt, coffee, toffee, chocolate hints and a smooth moderate hop finish with an afterglow of coffee and cocoa. Palate is good. This is a very smooth and taste oatmeal stout.

Pours dark black, smells of light oat, roasted malt, cola, little dark chocolate. Taste is smooth and easy drinking but a little too carbonated and I wish I got more milk. Certainly not bad.

Mandatory - serve at near room temperature, otherwise it’s character falls apart. Pour is still dark coffee brown with shallow, nicely laced, brief, coffee-cream head. Aroma is chocolate/treacle, vanilla/butterscotch. Taste coffee and near burnt toast with a sweet center. Medium body slighlty salt with a sweet dark toast finish, leaving a sweet coating in the mouth. Pleasantly drinkable. Original review of slight chilled bottle. Pours dark coffee brown with shallow, nicely laced, brief, coffee-cream head. Aroma is chocolate, treacle and nearly burnt toast. Medium body, a slight effervescence under the tongue. Initially sweet, then bittersweet chocolate, slight saltiness, and that near burnt toast finish that lingers on the palate. Overall it’s drier then then I would expect from the oatmeal/milk designation. I wanted to like it more.
