COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moo Joos combines the full body of a Milk Stout with the silky smoothness of an Oatmeal Stout. Lactose sugar in the boil contributes a full and creamy mouthfeel while toasted and flaked oats in the mash round out the beer with an oily texture. A deep malt bill builds layers of roasty notes with hints of chocolate, coffee and anise. A traditional British Cask Yeast is then pitched, which leaves us with a fruity, malty ale.

Drank warm. Dark black. Creamy chocolate. I pick up on the anise, but only after reading that it has it. I’d like to try others from this brewery.

The dubious selection at the hotel bar at least offered this novel sounding oatmeal stout. The results were not nearly as bad as I thought they might be. While I would probably not pick up more it does merit at least a couple of ounces if you run across a bottle and want a respectable Minnesota tick.

Aroma / Appearance - A rich black base supports waves of beige head. Cool oatmeal cookies on a ledge blend with smoke in a dry sweetness.

Flavor / Palate - Cooling oatmeal refreshes the tongue. Ash, cold campfire residue, and then a malty finish brings to mind the shadows of Founders Breakfast Stout. It does not belong in the same class as the best of breed but as a local offering this could make a solid daily drinker for colder months.

On tap at Winterfest ’11. Hazy brownish pour, white head. Aroma has notes of oat, milk, some coffee, and some roast. Taste is nice toffee, coffee, roast, leading into oats and earth, slightly bitter finish.

Sample at Winterfest. From notes. Not at all what I expected. Getting a lot of smoke on this one. Nose is some smokey coffee and chocolate. Flavor is much the same, with some interesting bready oats. Thick and rich mouthfeel, the highlight of this beer.

Black w/ brown head. Coffee & chocolate on the nose. Roasted malt, milk chocolate, dark fruit, coffee & a bit of vanilla. Taste is quite mellow and creamy - very nice texture. Medium body. They did this very well.

Thanks to the kind soul that opened this at the recent Tampa crew tasting. Pours a dark brown with a white head. Nose is some roast, chocolate, hint of smoke, and slight ash. Flavor is chocolate, lactose, a bit of licorice and ash, and a hint of dark fruit. Smooth mouthfeel and light to medium in body.

The Moo Joos pours as a black beer with relatively little head (for a stout). It has a rather strong aroma of yeast and dark malt. The taste has a good deal of balance, some sweetness, a hint of biterness from hops. Also I taste a slight amount of smoke. The palate is pretty good; thick and easy going down. A pretty good beer.

Pours a jet black with almost no head. Nose and taste are coffee & oatmeal. Decent but pretty common. Nothing I would need to try again. That said I would drink it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown with brown head. Nice sweet chocolate coffee aroma. Tastes of coffee and a bit of dark chocolate, but with some sweetness. Pretty good.
