COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rainwater Stout is the product of patience and time. Layers of toasted and roasted malt contribute flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark cocoa, dried fruit, nuts and caramel. Loads of Estate-Grown Hops give way to a surprisingly silky - smooth beer. Additions of Dark Belgian Candi Sugar provide balance as well as strength. Aged for months on Madeira Oak, this stout gains complexity with walnut and vanilla notes. An ale worthy of the designation - Very Special Old Dark - perfectly suitable for cellaring.

750 ml bottle a gift from Odeed. Nose is chocolate, port wine, some woody notes, and a slight hint of smoke-roast. Black with a small cinnamon tan head. Flavor is red wine-woody up front with some dark bitter chocolate in the background.

Thanks to Bob for the 750mL bottle. Poured deep brown with a fine, tightly-bubbled tan head. The aroma opened a bit tart, with vinous notes, cherry skins, and oak leading (all makes sense considering the Madeira barrel).. some coffee and cocoa beneath, but the barrel worked a bit too hard.. still enjoyable, though. The flavor started started the same way, with sour vinous notes and barrel, but more of the base beer came through afterward.. cocoa, ashy black patent, and well-roasted coffee settled onto the core.. coffee-inspired bitterness and grainy oak on the edges.. finished with a big dose of dry roasted malt with vinous notes and barrel. Medium-bodied with a choppy flow through the palate.. lots of good components in there.. overall some tasty stuff, and I really enjoyed the Madeira barrel treatment.

LIVEFAST (62) - Mount Misery, Valley Forge, - NOV 29, 2011
750mL dropped into HFB stemware. Dark brown/black with a decent sized tan head. Nose is bitter, chalky dark chocolate, oak, and a bit of roasted malts. Oak is quite astringent on the toungue without bringing any dryness. Bitter cocoa is present throughout and vanilla creeps in towards the end. Thin to medium mouthfeel. Solid Imperial stout with some impressive chocolate mimicry.

Bottle from Livefast, thanks dude. The stout pours oil chocolate black with a small but beautiful dark cocoa head. The aroma has sweet notes of chocolate some remnant perfumey bitter hops. The flavors of chocolate and sweet malts come through nicely on a creamy body with light bitter notes at the end. It has held up so well for two years with the cocoa and walnut notes still present and enjoyed.

(Sample at Papsø’s) Pours black with a medium, toffee head that laces the glass. Rich aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, sugar and alcohol. Soft carbonation, full body, creamy texture and a sweet finish. Taste is complex, sweetness from the malt with a bitterness from the roasting.
