COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the few small grains still grown in southwestern Minnesota, malted rye is the base for this one of a kind ale brewed and aged in tiny Lucan, Minnesota. Following a long, slow fermentation, the beer is stored away in used rye whiskey barrels brought north from our friends at Templeton, located in the equally tiny town of Templeton, Iowa.

Dark brown, copper color. Small head. Whiskey aroma and aftertaste. Rye beer base not my favorite for a barrel aged beer but a decent brew anyway. Worth trying.

Bottle at the parentals with my dad. 2011 Vintage. Pour is murky brown with a very small tan colored head. Caramelly, bourbony, toffee, raisins, figgy, light grapefruity, sweet bready, and toasty aroma. Taste is sweet malty, caramelly, lightly alcoholic, toffee, figs, heavy bourbon, grass, and orange peels with a light bitter finish. Thick syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Decent stuff but is probably a bit past its prime at this point.

Bottle. Whiskey, grenadine, with a really high sugar content. Lots of candy notes, sometimes taffy or jelly beans. Thick body, long finish, very interesting.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thick dark reddish pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of nice big oak, whiskey, and vanilla notes, big dark fruits, caramelized sugars with toffee, caramel, slight molasses, dark fig, nice spicy and yeasty notes as well, smells great. Taste is big dark fruits, nice oak, vanilla, coconut and whiskey notes, slight hints of dark molasses, toffee, going into more spice, finishing bitter and oaky. Very tasty.

Caramely malt somehow joins the cherries and mildly tart overall complexion. Malted rye grain all day. Tingles the back of my throat. So much rye barrel, delicious.

I was just informed this doesn't have cherries in the brew. Mind = blown.

Mahogany pour with fading head. Nose of whiskey soaked cherry and raisin with caramel, light brown sugar, and faint vanilla and oak. Flavor is caramel and whiskey soaked cherry and light plum with a decent vanilla presence in the finish. Still pretty hot and boozy. Adds a bitter alcohol finish. Overall pretty nice, but would have expected this to have tamed out a bit. Somewhat thinner than expected.

Dark Brown with a creamy khaki colored head with no carbonation. Nose is made up of caramel, chocolate, hops, rye, and spices. Flavor is mainly vanilla, rye, chocolate, caramel, oak, smoke and hops. Body is fairly light and rather creamy. This is a very good barleywine style ale!

750ml bottle. Pours a clear darkish copper with a nice creamy head. Aroma is all toasted caramel, orangey citrus and rye spice. Liking the barrel influence too. Taste is a wonderful combination of rye, caramel and fruitiness. Long, fruity aftertaste with a kiss of heat. Very good indeed.
