3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours almost black with no head. Oaky aroma and a bit of roasty grain. Tastes of bourbon and malt. Heavy mouthfeel, almost syrup. This one is a definite sipper. Share the big bottle. A nice winter warmer brew for sure.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured into a snifter. 2011 vintage.
4.0 A: Clear deep amber brown color. Two fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is very good given the ABV and a good bit of lacing is left.
4.5 S: Awesome nose on this. Rye whiskey is the most prominent aroma and offers a spicy earthiness, leather, melon, apple, oak, and plenty of vanilla. Booze is well hidden. The base follows suite with the rye as well as lots of caramel, toffee, plum, raisin, and dates.
4.0 T: The base comes out more in the taste. Raisin leads the force, followed by tobacco, and leather. Plum, dates, caramel, and spicy earthy rye next. The whiskey is surprisingly complementary here, but it works really well. Oak, melon, apple, and vanilla follow. Again the booze is well hidden. Quite tasty.
4.0 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Good creaminess. The only thing I donít like is that itís a bit too chewy and causes some amylase clumping in the back of my mouth.
4.5 D: The taste was borderline 4.5, so a bonus here. Really tasty beer. I wish more breweries would make rye wines or imperial ryes or whatever you want to call them.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big bottle, shared @Papsoeís.
Pours a clear amber to reddish brown, topped by a finger of beige head.
Discreet aroma of sweet, lightly toasted and bready malts. A whiff of alcohol, and notes of yellow fruits. Sweet and kind of hot in the mouth. Sugary dark caramel flavor. Notes of bread, jammy fruits and alcohol. Big body. Thick texture. Finishes sweet malty with a hint af lactic acids. Beyond interesting, and very tasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to PaulUnwin for sharing this one. Cheers, Paul! Pours a hazy caramel color with an off-white head. Nose is toffee, wood, rye whiskey, and some light barleywine fruits with hints of booze. Flavor is similar with big toffee, some booze, some barleywine fruit and mild oaky vanilla. Medium in body and a delicious sipper.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark copper color with a small head that lingers a while. Aroma is dominated by rye whiskey with notes of sweet caramel and butterscotch candy. Taste is moderately sweet, dominated by the rye whiskey flavor. It doesnít allow the other flavors to come through much which is a bit disappointing. There are some candy-like notes in the finish. Slight alcohol warming in the finish is nice. Medium body and very sticky mouthfeel. Overall, its pretty good, I just wish some other flavors would come through more.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of malt malt and more malt. Slight booze. Taste follows vanilla and oak, more malt. Slightly thin. A lot going on here, very complex. I'm glad I tried this

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2012 Bottle from Brian - thanks! Clear reddish pour with a slick of tan foam and steady carbonation. Aroma is heavy rye whiskey with grain and some underlying sweet malt with alcohol spice and bitterness. Taste is heavy, semi-boozy whiskey with spice and a thick barleywine malt backbone of raisin, caramel, and sweet toffee. Clean, coating mouthfeel. Too heavy on the rye whiskey for me but worth a try.

Bottle via Matty and mark. Pours a medium brown with medium tan head. Aroma is of bourbon and candy sugar. Taste is slight pepper up front with some sweetness that really works here. Some vanilla notes and more rye whiskey notes. Overall this is a great barley wine that really works.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
The pour is a clear copper color with a small tan head. Light citrus and pine hops on the nose, definitely a lot of rye, bread, and toffee. Thereís a hint of toast, some whiskey, and a nice bit of vanilla. The flavor is a bit more pine forward than expected and somewhat bitter. Sweet caramel and toffee malts, vanilla, and whiskey to balance that out. Quite a bit of rye malt, light citrus flavor to it as well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Deep caramel, ruby hued, moderate to large frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Big caramel and toasty whiskey aroma.   Sweet caramel maltiness up front, whiskey, soft graham cracker and vanilla.   Not too robust or heavy, feeling fairly moderate.   Not a big Barley Wine, has all the flavors but the body isnít too big.   Finishes with lots of whiskey, some caramel, rye, and graham cracker.   Good, but needs more body and a little bit of hop bite to balance it out.   Thanks for the bottle Bob!
