3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, pours a clear, dark red body with reddish light brown head. Aroma & taste of prune/dark fruit, rye, whiskey barrel, vanilla, and oak. Tastes much sweeter than the aroma might suggest. Smooth, medium-bodied. Light tartness on the finish with a lingering alcohol burn. It’s easily apparent that this is barrel aged, as the whiskey and oak flavors tend to dominate, especially as this warms. This would be interesting to try again after a few years of cellaring.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at the parentals with my dad. 2011 Vintage. Pour is murky brown with a very small tan colored head. Caramelly, bourbony, toffee, raisins, figgy, light grapefruity, sweet bready, and toasty aroma. Taste is sweet malty, caramelly, lightly alcoholic, toffee, figs, heavy bourbon, grass, and orange peels with a light bitter finish. Thick syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Decent stuff but is probably a bit past its prime at this point.

Bottle. Whiskey, grenadine, with a really high sugar content. Lots of candy notes, sometimes taffy or jelly beans. Thick body, long finish, very interesting.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thick dark reddish pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of nice big oak, whiskey, and vanilla notes, big dark fruits, caramelized sugars with toffee, caramel, slight molasses, dark fig, nice spicy and yeasty notes as well, smells great. Taste is big dark fruits, nice oak, vanilla, coconut and whiskey notes, slight hints of dark molasses, toffee, going into more spice, finishing bitter and oaky. Very tasty.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Caramely malt somehow joins the cherries and mildly tart overall complexion. Malted rye grain all day. Tingles the back of my throat. So much rye barrel, delicious.
I was just informed this doesn't have cherries in the brew. Mind = blown.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Mahogany pour with fading head. Nose of whiskey soaked cherry and raisin with caramel, light brown sugar, and faint vanilla and oak. Flavor is caramel and whiskey soaked cherry and light plum with a decent vanilla presence in the finish. Still pretty hot and boozy. Adds a bitter alcohol finish. Overall pretty nice, but would have expected this to have tamed out a bit. Somewhat thinner than expected.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark Brown with a creamy khaki colored head with no carbonation. Nose is made up of caramel, chocolate, hops, rye, and spices. Flavor is mainly vanilla, rye, chocolate, caramel, oak, smoke and hops. Body is fairly light and rather creamy. This is a very good barleywine style ale!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle. Pours a clear darkish copper with a nice creamy head. Aroma is all toasted caramel, orangey citrus and rye spice. Liking the barrel influence too. Taste is a wonderful combination of rye, caramel and fruitiness. Long, fruity aftertaste with a kiss of heat. Very good indeed.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Holy smokes is this strong of whiskey! Aroma explodes from the bottle with a very strong whiskey, light vanilla, light wood and light malt nose. Pours a deep red/brown color with a modest creamy, off-white head with great staying power. Flavor tastes like your drinking a glass of whiskey. Strong whiskey flavors overpower the light vanilla, malt, lots of wood and a slight smokey finish. Body is modest with a low fine carbonation and a very strong, hot alcoholic flavor. Overall this beer is too one dimensional. The whiskey flavor overpowers almost an normal barleywine character. This beer would be a great candidate for sharing as I could see this being the perfect sipping beer amongst a large grouping of friends.

Bottle. Dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma is heavy on the barrel. Taste has huge caramel malt, vanilla and intense heat from the rye. Smooth rich palate. Really intense and awesome.
