tedovertu (133), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jun 9, 2008 Bottle, Aroma of dark chocolate and mild coffee mixed with pipe tobacco. Decent lacing with quickly disappearing head. Brownish black color. Light acidic flavor with average duration. Medium to full body. Very interesting aroma and taste. Reminds me of my grandfathers pipe tobacco.
Trev (541), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a dark brown-black with a thin tan head.
Aroma is dark roast coffee and cocoa nibs.
Flavour is nicely done. A little milky tasting, light burnt bitterness, some sweet chocolate. marchcow (513), Coralville, Iowa, USA Sep 20, 2008 Sour milk, roasted malt, and coffee aromas. Reddish brown with a thick head of good duration. Espresso and dark chocolate flavors with a dryish finish. Palate is mild. heemer77 (3782), Savannah, Missouri, USA Sep 11, 2008 Bottled. A very black bodied brew with a brown sugar colored head on top. The aroma is loaded with rich molasses and milk chocolate chips. There is some nice syrupy goodness here. The taste has some nice roast coffee along with bitter sweet chocolate. There is a lightly tart finish with dark plums. A decent brew that enjoyed until the finish after each drink. Nuffield (2541), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Sep 6, 2008 This one had so much promise, esp. the thick, rather luxurious-looking head. But there was a deep disappointment, because amid the obvious roasted front and some of the best dimensions, I found I just really didn’t enjoy the sourness. I’ve had plenty of lactic stouts among the sweet stout category, but this one really rubbed my palate the wrong way, with a finish that left me clamoring for a glass of water. Good palate potential in the thickness, but ruined--to me--by the sourness. Bottle. drowland (7), , Illinois, USA does not count Aug 27, 2008 Up close to my favorite Brau Brothers with their Pale Ale. Aroma is distinctly bittersweet chocolate with touches of coffee and a hint of sour. On the tongue, sour stout hits your tip; the middle and sides are creamy, carbonated, and silky; and the finish is all roasty coffee, which continues to linger.
