3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Koelschtrinker (8485) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUN 1, 2011
Säuerlich-malziger, sehr weicher Antrunk. 9/9/9/9/9/9
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pivnizub (8000) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - JUN 2, 2005
Draught(at the Hofman’s): Dark amber coloured, medium sized off-white head; hoppy-grassy aroma with a tinge of grains; light bodied, only slight malty flavour; dry, bitter aftertaste; astonishingly dry and bitter for a beer of this colour; O.K. but not the best franconian beer........
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MoritzF (7756) - Bochum, GERMANY - JUL 23, 2007
(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with almost no head. Sweet roast-malty nose with caramel. Sweet and slightly burnt bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a very flat to none carbonation. Roast-malty taste with caramel; sweet malt-accented finish with a roasted bitterness. Needs a re-rate because something obviously went wrong with the bottling.

A Mes rate: Gravity serving at Zeitgeist. Cloudy mid brown with a good off white head. Sweet caramel notes, a lovely malt and hop balance with some bread and yeast in the aroma. Tangy sweetness in the mouth with some very good earthy malt, lovely nutty notes, tobacco and hoppage. Bitterish sour-dough bread finish.

. and then it has the nerve to look like soda pop in the glass. but the nose begins to show promise with rich toasty layers of Munich malt playing with touches of smoke, nuts, seeds and bran. soft and creamy carbonation with pastry dough bounce and sweeter accents of rum, caramel-drizzled shaved almond pastries and nugat and whipped cream coffee cake. very unlike the horrendously unappetizingly browned banana colored label.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 downender (5191) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - NOV 16, 2007
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2008 Bottle from Landbierparadies, Nurnberg. Deep chestnut colour with a big, frothy off-white head. Spicy cinnamon and caramel aroma. Light mouth feel with some chocolate malt and a decent dry finish. [3.1] Good. Second tasting - from the barrel at Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardeners, Lambeth 16/5/08. This had far more depth of aroma and flavour, with the spice more prominent, some earthy bitterness and a great dry finish. Excellent [3.7].

Draft at Franconian beer festival and there described as a dunkles vollbier. Dark red-brown, short-lived but nice tan head. Full-on malt aroma is very friendly. Quaffable, very nice mouthfeel. Good pumpernickel raisin bread flavors. Dry finish, almost too dry but makes it more moreish. Very nice.

This is a bit roastier of a dunkel. It is called "Brotzeitbier" for whatever reason.
